Not even tape can keep John from falling apart
Continuing from issue #267, this issue is just as insane as the last issue, but with a dash of Shade in the mix. Yeah that is a lot of madness if you don't know who Shade is. Peter Milligan's build up on Hellblazer was for this moment. John Constantine feeling his aging coming on, lonely because Kit has been gone for many years now and Phoebe is also out of the picture. Nothing is going John's way since India and now Shade is reeking Chaos in the hospital in since John Constantine is checked into.
The Good:
- Simon Bisley's cover is wonderful. Clever little bugger to... this cover tells so much on what will occur in this issue. Shade's cloak is visible, John With a hidden left hand alone with a cut up left arm. The band around his wrist is marked W 13... which could be Biz's way of saying he has been on Hellblazer 13 covers now. The covers are just getting better and better.
- The interior art is settling with me and I actually enjoyed it. I would still prefer Chris Bachalo to draw Shade, but I guess it was not possible.
- Another cliff hanger and the need for the next issue.
The Bad:
- Extremely over the top insanity, which maybe a challenge to recover from.
- The series has potential to drag on... I hope it won't.... the pacing is fine so far.
- The Kitchen scene is not believable. The Hanging meat felt out of place.
The Verdict:
If you love Shade this is a must. As from Hellblazer fans, Peter Milligan has changed the tempo of Hellblazer. Most writers where just adding to what Delano and Ennis created, Peter Milligan is doing his own thing. This run is very enjoyable right now.
5/5 Stars
Cheers!
