...will be portrayed in the Thor movie (or in a sequel, alternately the Avengers movie)? If at all?
If I understood the trailer correctly, Thor said something about "magic and science being one and the same" in Asgard, and IMO, that makes it sound slightly Ancient-Astronauts-ish (then again, that would depend on where you draw the line between deities and highly advanced beings; also, it's just the impression I got). It kind of raises the question of how you can plausibly show an afterlife ruled by an Asgardian, yet still make it science-y enough for the franchise (unless Hela's realm is leaning towards the more magic-y end of the science/magic spectrum).
What are your thoughts? Should Hela, the norse goddess of death, appear in the movies, and if so how do you think she should be portrayed?
Hela
Character » Hela appears in 580 issues.
Hela is the Norse Goddess of Death and ruler of Hel and Niffleheim.
How do you think Hela...
I read an acticle back when Ghost Rider came out, but it could have been given before or during the movie being made, one of the producers, they were talking about the villians, & they said that Lilith would not be used because there was some taboo against using female villains, especially when the hero is male. That it gives the wrong message, & might alienate the female demographic of the audiance.
So, no I do not see Hela being used. She cant be used as a villain, & so she'd have to be a ruler of a part of the afterlife, & her kingdom would have to be in danger. & I assume it would be as big a no-no to have her need to be saved by Thor.
there's speculation that Kat Denning's non-comic book character "Darcy" is going to turn out to be Hela in the Thor movie.
Come on, to hell with the taboo, somebody has gotta break the Poison Ivy/Catwoman women enemy in comic book movies by now.
I'm not saying Hela needs to be a villain though. She could just as well be a neutral ruler of the afterlife (or a part of it), much like Hades is in Greek mythology (though Hollywood always gets this wrong and puts him as villain, for some reason).
@conformist21: Hmm, I hope there's some merit to that speculation then.
well, since Thor Into Darkness happened.
If Hela were to be used, she could be Loki's sister, who could have been born any time before or after Odin took Loki as a baby in the first film. She could eventually take over the Jotin world. Or maybe Loki's father got with a queen of Niffilheim, & Hela is living there. Again, being Loki's half-sister.
Or you remove her connection to Loki at all, & create a new character who gets imprisoned with his son's guts & has a giant snake spit on him, & Hela is that new character's daughter/wife.
There really is NO other way to use her because she cant be Loki's daughter, since he turned evil during the first film. If he had her now, she'd be what, 2 years old? Plus, he was allied with the Skrulls, & then in Prison.
But considering how pointless Sif has been in both movies, I doubt she'd do much.
