Holy cow! Where was I when this was first announced? (Probably recording our podcast). More importantly, why the heck hasn't James Robinson ever hinted that he had this cooking?

DC has announced that this July, Robinson and Philip Tan will be giving us a six-issue miniseries for the Masters of the Universe.

According to DC:

In the new series, Robinson reintroduces the Masters of the Universe® to comic readers with Skeletor having won a major victory and rewriting the world of Eternia where he now rules from Castle Grayskull and the Masters have no memory of their former glory. Adam is a simple woodsman haunted by dreams of a heroic warrior, wielding a powerful sword in battle. He is found by a mysterious sorceress who tells him his dreams are of the way the world should be, that he is Eternia's champion He-Man. Adam sets off on a quest to regain his power and reawaken the Masters of the Universe.

He-Man is definitely a strange character. I can't say I'm the biggest He-Man fan but I am so freaking excited over seeing Robinson and Tan do this story.

That sounds pretty cool..especially if it's anything like the 2003 animated series.

I hope they really go into the mythos and explore it. Don't really see that happening in 6 issues though

AAAHHH!! I don't believe this!! One of the icons of my childhood!! I can't imagine my life without He-Man and his neat sister She-Ra. And I like James Robinson, so I feel confident in checking this out. He better do Skeletor PERFECTLY!!!

The 80's cartoon was a MILLION, JILLION, KAZILLION times better than the 2003 version.

Im very excited. James is one of the few writers I really follow. For most it completely depends on what they are writing and who their artist is. With Mister Robinson its worth reading if he wrote it. I dont know when I will be able to buy it but I know I will either as a trade or issue by issue where I can spare my change to do so!

#14 Posted by Grim (2049 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago - Show Bio

YES!!! Not only do i get a He-Man comic, but MARVEL isnt forcing me to give them my money by printing it! GLORY BE THY GREYSKULL!!!

i hope this kicks off a series, and i hope that kicks off a new live action movie. Masters of the Universe was epic to me!

... i would say i want a Cartoon too, but honestly i dont trust any of the networks to not make anything that doesnt pander to the growing ADD epidemic in today's children. Have you seen what they did to the original power rangers a couple years ago...?

#15 Posted by zackattack529 (1404 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago - Show Bio

mmm id rather have another good heman cartoon or movie...not a comicbook...and to top it off a 6 issue limited series....id be better off wating for this to be collected IF i was interested...i liked heman because of the mythos and universe it had in the cartoon. how will they do this in a 6 issue limited series..they wont.

@InnerVenom123

Incoming cancelled book.

It's a six issue mini. It's not like it's an ongoing.

@NightFang: Yea man the 2003 series had really awesome animation. The voice actor that did Skeletor was great too. To be honest tho i always used to laugh at the end credits when they had a Master describe the "moral" or lesson to the episode lol.

There arent words to describe how much I loved He-Man as a child. Those figures were actually the first things I started collecting. I still remember that little bastard next door breaking my He-Man sword.

Interest piqued. When I read the title I thought they were introducing He-Man into the DCnU. That got me overcharged!! but this is still good too

Wonder Woman and He-Man hookup and name their child He-Woman

@TheMess1428: It's more like Gears of War. A licensed book. Supernatural is a WB product so there's no licensing needed.

As a child of the 80's I think I have to get this.

Yeah, true. I forgot about that. I just thought that since He-Man is pretty much a comic book entity, not being from video game origins, that it could be considered part of a bigger universe and not so isolated.

Now that I had a chance to let the shock settle down from my system. one of a few things I wanted point out.

1. that picture reminds me of this statue done by the four horsemen. minus the axe and shield.

2. I dislike time travel, but the synopsis kind of reminds me of Thor: Blood Brothers.

For all you nostalgia critics out there. Best thing i can think of is that if they are just basing it on the old series is Pre-eternia mucking about. or the Time Corridor from the cartoon which brought back that old king from the past.

3. James Robinson has been known to throw in curve balls into a series to make it that much more interesting. as long as prince adam does not have a daughter. I do not expect a child to get building dropped on them.

and 4. OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG *Fan-gasm*

I'm really looking foward to this. I still love ol' muscle-head and keep an almost complete collection of the vintage figures. About the time travel stuff, when Marvel's Star Comics imprint ran the series, the final two part arc involved time travel in a manner much similar to the plot revealed for the new series. It was a great reading, imho.

#49 Posted by vidmouse (11 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago - Show Bio

Agreed. The Star comics stories are some of the most underrated IMO.

#50 Posted by Baberaham_Lincoln (506 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago - Show Bio

Epic, definately gonna be picking this up, and then buy the TPB aswell.
