Hawkman
Character » Hawkman appears in 1983 issues.
Carter Hall, now infused with the mysterious Nth Metal, is granted flight, strength and a living armor. He battles dangerous threats, both alien and mystical, as the savage Hawkman.
Is Hawkman Getting His Own Movie?
A Hawkman live action movie? Could it possibly work? That's the "exclusive" word coming from Pajiba.com. I've never been the biggest Hawkman fan. I think there could be some potential for a Hawkman movie. I'm just not sure how well it would translate into live-action.
The problem with most superheroes trying to make the leap to the big screen is their looks just don't translate well. If we think about Hawkman's upcoming appearance on Smallville, it could put some doubt into your mind. For a character that is supposed to be a tough-ass warrior, seeing someone dressed up as him, it comes across as laughable.
According to the article, Warner Bros. is apparently looking to make Hawkman a tentpole franchise. It's being described as part Indiana Jones, part Da Vinci Code and part Ghost. Uh huh. Perhaps after seeing Michael Shanks actually perform the role on the January episode of Smallville, we'll have a better idea if this could work. I just can't see Hawkman as a "tentpole" movie. I would be curious to hear what the Hawkman fans have to say.
Sounds dumb i think. Depends on what back story they use. Will they be aliens from another world coming to infultrate us? or will the be humans continually reincarnated that fights for justice and every time they meet, and fall in love they get killed (essentually what happens in Hancock {a will smith movie}) Either way it would have to be a love stroy with both hawkman and woman
FYI: the picture being shown goes to the smallville episode coming out in january or feb.
Hell no. I've always considered HAWKMAN to be one of the most "un-exploitable" characters ever. I mean... Seriously? Hawkman?
Except, of course, when "maestro" KYLE BAKER used him in WEDNESDAY COMICS.
well if they put someone who actually fit the look in the costume, it'd be pretty cool. The one used for Smallville looks almost right... the only problem is that the actor Michael Shanks looks a little too scrawny to be Hawkman.
But with a few changes here and there it has the potential to be a cool movie.
There have been weirder comic movies... But he's not exactly a big name to draw in the crowds. Didn't DC say they were cutting back on the comic movies to produce quality, not quantity?
I'm on the opposite side of the fence, G-Man, as I like Hawkman. I'm more of a fan of his "smack people first, ask questions later" attitude. What's not to love about it? Ha.
Having said it and being a Hawkman fan, I would like a Hawkman movie BUT I don't think it'd fly--pun intended--as a stand-alone movie.
I think the source for this article is bird-brained--- you know the rest. Yet another Internet rumor full of sh!t. Key words "tentpole", "franchise", etc. Yeah......OK, sparky.
Ewww. That pottery bonking scene in Ghost freaks me out. Its not Patrick Swayze, its Whoopi Goldberg Demi, Whoopi Goldberg! I know I'm a man ("I go pee-pee standing up" to qoute Kung Pow) and thus not really the target audience but come on...
Hawkman. Got to admit, not much awareness of the character beyond his DCAU appearances. Does he have a following?
Now back to insulting customers. The joys of being a grown up.
Oh, and its bloody freezing

it would kinda be cool if they used his jsa costume just have some retardedly buff dude swinging around a mace for an hour and a half probably wouldn't be the worst movie to come out in the next few years
why don't thay make a movie for someone more diserving, Like supergirl (due for one),Green arrow, or Flash for God sake. I know people want to see a damn live action flash movie ^_^. Theres many,Many more heros that diserve movies
I would rather see a Flash movie first and Hawkman make a later appearance in a Justice League movie or something but I guess this works if they can make that ancient Egyptian pharaoh/ alien cop origin make since. Would be cool to see Gerard Butler put on the wings as Carter Hall.
Nooooo!
It will just be a waste of money.
There is no possible way to portray a character like this on the big screen ¬¬ small screen, possibly. But it will just look too stupid. And he's not a well known character like Batman or Superman are.
I'm a big Hawkman fan so yeah I've always wanted him to have his own movie, and wanted Kevin Sorbo to play him.
I think it could work. I mean there's 2 ways you could do it. You could do the Hawkman from Thanagar and use some of the Hawkworld series in it. Or you do the Hawkman who is the archaeologist and show the reincarnations of his past lives. So yeah I think it could work.
" HELL NO! Hawkman getting a movie! thats dumb give it to a better hero FLASH for gods sake not this loser HE DOESNT EVEN DESERVE SMALLVILLE !!! "Smallville isn't something to deserve or not. It's a curse! All heroes that "went" to Smallville turned out as horrible adaptations. Srsly, that shit sucks.
Btw, I don't think Hawk is that bad. It all depends on who takes it (director AND actor). As ever, don't have much of a hope, I often get disappointed with comics' adaptations.
Anybody else hates Ledger's Joker?
"DC has a roster full of superheroes with movie potential. Hawkman is not one of them.
Uh....
"
Fuckin yes. Hawkman deserves his own movie. Anybody who doesn't think Hawkman is a great character with tons of material to work with obviously has never read a comic book in their life. He has such an interesting background that if done correctly would make for an awesome movie. I'd say that they need to get Geoff Johns involved who has an outspoken love for Hawkman...even though he killed him. Hawkman is fuckin badass. Do yourself a favor and read the last Hawkman series they did, when Geoff Johns reinvisioned him in the early 2000s. Then go and read The Return of Hawkman in JSA and continue reading the JSA title. Read Black Reign and tell me Hawkman's not fuckin badass. He's DC's Wolverine. Hands down. Granted, I understand that his look might not make for a good costume in a live-action movie, but we'll see. They'd have to get someone who's fuckin jacked to play him...which Michael Shanks is not, but I'll see how he does in January. If u look at the Infinite Heroes action figures, Hawkman is much bigger than Superman.
I think Bruce Vain and the Bug put it best, HAWKWORLD.
That is by far the coolest Hawkman story out there, bar none. The Thanagarian lower classes are some bugged out mutant slaves, and I would like to see that on the big screen. Plus (don't freak out Hawkfans) if it is set up in outerspace they could even do away with the wings and just have the nth metal and a helmet with a beak or something.
I would hate to see The Mummy as a superhero movie, please god no. Please no Brendan Fraser with wings.
So bring the outlaw spacecop to Earth and hook him up with Egyptian myths. We could change the story a bit more (I must be offending those Hawkfans out there) and have Katar Hol realize that Egyptian myths are identical to Thangarian myths but with a different spoken language (hieroglyphs are the same). You could even explain the pyramids and Egyptian culture as a result of Thanagarian influence. That would give you a chance to show Thanagar, and out law stuff, then fugitive alien on Earth crashes into Pyramids, and then he can travel the Earth saving the world.
I think Hawkman is one of those guys who is Ancient, as in Golden Age, so he has some diehards, but a greater number of people just do not care. They should make a flick though to lead into Justice League!!
Well I thing that it should go to The Flash, Green lantern, Teen Titans or another Batman movie, but you know I think it will bo king of cool, they have done weirder superheromovies. I never really thought of him on the big screen but I don't know. I think they should make a Teen Titans or Batman movie before they go running off to characters who arn't even all that big.
Maybe we should see what he's like on Smallville first. Then we can say what we think of a movie. Hawkman is one of my favorite heroes. I hope the movie will be good if one is made.
Who said they will make this into a superhero direction? The whole thing could possibly be a sci-fi/mythology movie just like what the description says so. Don't you see the part Indiana Jones/Da Vinci Code thing?
I believe it could work. I can imagine this movie to be an extremely dark tech-noir film. Those who fail to see that better reread Hawkman's page on comicvine.
I'd rather see a Harvey Birdman movie - with Gary Cole & Stephen Colbert reprising their roles. Ha HA!
im not doubting they could make Hawkman LOOK fantastic. putting wings on a guy is no problem on a movie budget. But i cant see the movie doing well. Hawkma isnt an iconic chracater by any means. he's one of those heroes you actually dont expect people to know. And he doesnt have a massive fan following like Aquaman.
If they did make this movie, there would be a very mild amount of fan support from comics readers, and i cant really see the story grabbing people.
idk
