Hawkgirl
Hawkgirl is a comic book character that first appeared in Flash Comics #1Kendra Saunders was a troubled girl whose parents were killed. She was trained by her grandfather Speed Saunders. Later she recovered from her tragedies and became the Hawkgirl. Kendra eventually died at the hands of Sue Dibny (now a Black Lantern) and was resurrected as a Black Lantern herself.
COMIC HISTORY
Hawkgirl was once Chay-Ara, a consort of Prince Khufu of Egypt. Both she and her lover died fighting an Egyptian sorcerer, but they were both repeatedly reincarnated, destined to meet and fall in love, but cursed to die at the peak of their relationship. Her latest incarnation was that of Shiera Hall. Together with Carter, they became Hawkman and Hawkgirl, heroes and symbols of justice and warrior's honor. However, when Shiera died, Carter managed to avoid the cycle of death and rebirth. Afraid and unwilling to be separated from her lover, Shiera's spirit found a way to remain on Earth by fusing with that of her grandniece, Kendra Saunders. An unfortunate side effect was that Kendra had all the drive and skill to be a heroine that Shiera had, but had no access to the memories of Shiera's past lives.
Thus, while always feeling a strong attraction to Carter, she was unable to justify her feelings and instincts, rebelling against what destiny seemed to be forcing her to do against will and logic. She fights with him and away from him on an equal basis, together often, but seemingly forever apart.
Blackest Night
Kendra visits Carter at the museum, acting on her growing concern about the increasing incidences of Carter's rage. She witnesses Carter Hall angrily rebuff a despondent Ray Palmer over the phone, after the latter asks Carter to let him visit the grave of Jean Loring. Kendra witnesses him smashing the phone to prevent Ray from traveling through, and rebukes him. This resulting long conversation evolves into a mutual rant about their tense relationship, emerging from the tension created by their mutual destinies and Kendra being unable to access the memories of her past lives.Kendra then tries to explain that she's always had to control her instincts, and that it was very difficult for her to do. She didn't want to give up that measure of control because of the curse they shared, which states that at the point when their love for each other was greatest, the hourglass would turn, and they would both die before their time. At that point, she weeps, and almost reveals how she feels about him when she is impaled from behind by a spear held by a reanimated Sue Dibny, now a Black Lantern.
Carter, stunned by what happened to Kendra, is then easily beaten by Black Lantern Ralph Dibny, the Elongated Man, using Hawkman's own Nth Metal mace against him. Before Hawkgirl dies, she manages to tell Carter that she had always loved him. As Carter is finished off by the Elongated Man, Kendra's heart is extracted by Sue Dibny and her body rapidly decays. Kendra's and Carter's hearts are consumed to power up the Black Rings. The Black Hand appears, then releases two more rings, which then command the corpses of both Carter and Kendra to rise as Black Lanterns.
ANIMATION HISTORY
Hawkgirl is a reincarnation of the ancient Egyptian Chay-Ara and her true love Khufu (a.k.a. Hawkman). Hawkgirl and Hawkman's relationship was a reincarnation cycle that happened through out time (finding love and dying together) until Shayera Hall. Carter Hall cheated the cycle and ended up with her previous incarnation dead. So now Shayera Hall doesn't know about the reincarnations of her past lives and her love with Hawkman is over. But after being exposed to the anti-gravity Nth metal from Thanagar they were imprinted with memories of the distant planet's people.POWERS
Hawkgirl is super strong, she has enough strength to lift a car and fly with it. Hawkgirl can perform a sonic scream that can damage and/or destroy living tissue and do some damage to non-living objects as well. Hawkgirl cannot fly under her own power and needs a belt made out of the Nth metal. This allows her to fly without the wings. She has the inorganic wings so she can maneuver much better through the air. Hawkgirl uses a mace that has an electric core. With her mace, Hawkgirl can bash up concrete and even leave dents in thick steel. The mace can be charged up with its core into a super powered strike. This electric power attack can shatter solid steel into pieces. Her mace also has some unique abilities to which it can't be effected by magic and can not affect anything magic.Characteristics (Hawkgirl I, Hawkgirl III, Hawkgirl IV, Hawkwoman I)

Animated Hawkgirl
But this relationship turns sour in the following episode "Starcrossed," when it is revealed that Hawkgirl is secretly a spy for her people and engaged to the commander of their army. When the League and the Thanagarians disagree, she sides with her people, betraying the League in the process. However, when she discovers that the Thanagarians are planning to destroy Earth in order to save Thanagar, she attempts to help out the League. It is her help that ultimately leads to the Justice League's victory over the invaders.
The members of the Justice League decide to have a discussion over whether they should kick Hawkgirl out of the group or not. However, she chooses to quit the group before hearing their decision. After one last moment with John, in which she reveals her love for him, she flies off into the sunset, not to appear again until Justice League Unlimited.
Hawkgirl's next appearance is at the end of the first season episode of JLU, "The Return." She is revealed to have been living with Dr. Fate and his wife ever since her disappearance. She next appears in the episode "Wake the Dead," because of the rebirth of a villain whom she had been friends with, Solomon Grundy. She meets John again, who is revealed to still possess feelings for her, despite his new girlfriend, Vixen. He tells Hawkgirl that she had not been voted out of the League and invites her to join again. She agrees and begins to mend fences with various members of the group. Two members who have a difficult time trusting her are Wonder Woman and Vixen. Diana, who voted against Hawkgirl's return to the League, feels betrayed by her teammate. However, the two are able to make up after a mission in "The Balance." Vixen, on the other hand, dislikes Shayera because John still loves her. They clash in the episode "Hunter's Moon," but at the end become friends.
The episode "Hunter's Moon" is also important, because it ties up several loose strings from "Starcrossed." The surviving members of the Thanagarian fleet are hunting down Hawkgirl in order to punish her for treason. They reveal that Thanagarian lost the war, news which saddens Shayera, who is still attached to her homeland.
Hawkgirl and Lantern's relationship is again addressed in JLU second season episodes: "Shadow of the Hawk" and "Ancient History." Within "Shadow of the Hawk," Carter Hall, or Hawkman, makes his first appearance. He is a scientist who becomes interested in Shayera, something which makes John jealous. Carter later reveals that he is the incarnation of a Thanagarian soldier who crashed in Egypt several centuries ago and that Shayera is his reincarnated wife. Because he discovers these memories by touching a piece of ancient Thanagarian technology, Hawkgirl refuses to believe him, telling him that the technology corrupted his mind. However, in the later episode "Ancient History," Shayera, John, and Carter are all forced to touch the machine, and discover that they are the reincarnated versions. However, instead of Carter's original version of Shayera and him as fated lovers, they discover that Shayera and John were actually the fated lovers from Egypt. This news forces Carter to reconsider his feelings for Hawkgirl, and he decides to let her go, saying that they both know who she is really supposed to be with. Shayera then goes to talk to John, who disappoints her expectations by revealing that he still loves her, but that he wants to stay with Vixen.
The character seems to share more in common with Hawkwoman though.
