    Hey Folks, just wondering if anyone has read an explanation for Hawkeye's apparent increase in strength seen in New Avengers Vol. 2 Issue 9.

    No Caption Provided

    I expected it to be a lead in to a story, but... I've not seen anything yet.

    I really appreciate that you still remember this and still point it out - its always in the back of my mind, the strange place I can only go during day time hours. Also recently a bunch of viking warriors in the new Thor title confirmed how heavy Thor was. He is suppose to be near 300 kg/650 lbs, but in Siege some random guy dragged his dead weight and armor up an incline. That was impressive to me too. My personal canon is that steroids are more common in Earth 616...

    Interesting... same thing as Wolverine used to be too heavy to be able to swim, then again he used to be able to kill by a sword through the heart.

    That reminds me of a 1969 Oldsmobile my mother used to have. That thing was about 100 feet long... I couldn't parallel park the dang thing as it required two drivers to accomplish the task.

    Yeah... In that Wolverine/Kitty 6 issue mini-series back in the 80s he was stabbed through the heart with a katana, by Kitty while she was possessed by an evil Ninja master's spirit... He was down for the count but Yukio knocked Kitty out as I recall. He also took several days to recover from that. Yet, today, he stands right by Nitro as he explodes with the force of a Nuclear bomb and a few minutes later Wolverine is up, walking, and killing again...

    But this thing has just never been explained or mentioned again... It's just...hanging there...like a dangling participle... @SC said:

    Orrrr...maybe gravity has less affect on him when he's unconscious? or the random guy was actually a super hero who wanted to remain anonymous! or.. or... the writers just didn't really care about details... No, that could never happen, could it?

    @Blood1991: Kind of like the watermelon in the movie Buckaroo Bonzai....

    on the off chance that you didn't see the movie, I'll explain what I mean... There's a scene that has NOTHING to do with the movie... Two guys are running through this building during the chaos of fighting off some sort of invasion by beings from another dimension... I believe they end up having to go through a machine room where there is a water melon in a machine press... One guy asks the other, "What's that water melon doing in a machine press?" and the other guy replies, "I'll tell you later." ..... and it's NEVER mentioned again...

    @SC:

    LOL. I remember that. I was wondering how this dude was able to drag Thor by himself when it took Captain America and 4 other heroes (some of whom had super strength) to carry Thor when he collapsed during Fear Itself.

    Doesn't make any sense as Cage could carry Thor by himself. Hell, Captain America can drag Thor.

    @Hyperlight: Oh... LOL! got it.

    Well THAT actually would make sense... I've been thinking about how Hawkeye worked well through the 70s and 80s, but in the current Marvel Universe, I just don't see being able to shoot things with precision as enough of a talent to make one a super hero... An assassin, no doubt, but....

    Bobbie got upgraded to super soldier status.. why not Clint...

    Hmmm... No.... No, I think you are actually on to something with the whole, "By the power of Bendis!" thing... I think it could work!!!!

    YES! YOU'RE A GENIUS!

    Hawkeye is now suped up by the POWER OF BENDIS... and.. and.. Like Dr. Strange, he wears a magical garment of some sort. Perhaps a.. CLOAK OF QUESADA! The cloak of Quesada, of course, shields him from the iron grip of continuity and timeline constraints!

    and finally... he wields.. THE PEN OF LIEFELD! With which he is able to instantly summon HUGE guns, women with no feet, and, when the occasion calls for it, people who only have one leg!

    The Pen of Liefeld is obvious. It's in his hand in the comic the OP posted: Hawkeye disguises it as an arrow. Once squeezed, it gives him superhuman muscles the likes of which stop him from actually reaching his face, and from some angles, makes him appear to have hideously deformed breasts. Or perhaps he inflates with so many pouches the car is lifted away.

    And the women have no spine as well as no feet and only one leg. They attempt to make up for it with POUCHES.

    You, Sir, are a genius... and I see you are well versed in 'Liefeldism.'

    I now consider this mystery solved and it is time to go on to the next one... I'm thinking of posting a blog on genius battle tactics within the Marvel Universe.

    agreed,there was a teenage girl (and she wasn't really in bad shape,but she wasn't muscular or in body-builder condition.She was average) and she was able to lift a car off of her father.So why can't a peak human guy do it.And that was a true story,so I see no problem with hawkeye doing it.

    I like the Pym Particle theory so far.

    Does Hawkeye really need super strength though?

    @cameron83: yeah I just said adrenaline because that's what's commonly associated with those cases....

    I know,but it's still possible that the inconsistency of Bendis is at play.

    @cameron83: actually I have no doubt it was a Bendis misfortune, I was just coming up with an In-verse plausible explanation

    Only to lift that car off his body, since he was pinned on the ground... It looks as if he was on his back and the car was on top of him at first.

    @Jorgevy: @cameron83:

    No doubt adrenaline gives normal humans super human strength in times of distress... But in the situations you've mentioned, and the ones I've read about, the person is usually in a position where they can USE their muscles.. Like a guy in Hawaii, a few years back, that basically lifted a crashed helicopter off his friend. He didn't lift the whole thing, but lifted one side enough for his friend to be pulled out. But in this situation it appears that Hawkeye is on his back at first and the car is on his entire body... Next, he is on ONE KNEE and lifting the car with ONE ARM. I really do think it's implied that it is more than just an adrenaline boost. Also notice that he's not even straining really... Even when people have that adrenaline rush, they have to exert extraordinary effort, don't you think?

    edit - Jorgevy, I didnt see your last comment until after I replied to the previous one... I get what you're saying about the inverse plausible explanation. other than the "By the Power of BENDIS" scenario, or Captain America in disguise, or a Skrull... Adrenaline is the best one yet...

    @Timandm: no problem xD yeah true, in most cases its like that but i remember a hitchiker lifting a whole rock that fell on his chest. also, in most cases there's a LOT of straining and also muscle rupture, because technically humans are stronger than they are but their minds kinda shield them of harm by making themselves think of as weaker. why - because if we actually went with our full might in some routines we could easily "destroy" a muscle

    so yeah, although he isn't straining and the position was extremelly weird, he IS peak human. comic book peak human actually, which as we all know its slightly better than real life peak human. I guess if they dont explain this in a good way, the adrenaline thing is better than nothing, or atleast better than a Bendis screw up

    @Jorgevy: Actually, I've been hoping that they have 'suped' him up in any way. What I like most about Hawkeye is that he actually has no super powers.. He is ENTIRELY about skill and will power... And being a cocky so and so but we love him for that...

    I can't really think of any other Marvel heroes that are truly street level, and I tend to enjoy those. Bobbie WAS street level but she's a super soldier now, but I do hope they'll leave Clint alone and let him continue to be the peak/olympic level/supremely skilled/cocky so-and-so that he is...

    @Timandm: although he was a super soldier in the Ultimate universe... so there's a possibility.

    personally I have a hard time liking characters that are purely skill and peak/olympic level. I prefer street levels with weak or low level powers, like Daredevil and Captain America or something. the only exception is Batman because let's face it, he is more superhuman than peak anything with all the crap the writers make him do

    No, no, no... Batman is an exception because... HE'S BATMAN!!! damnit!!! LOL! Who doesn't love Batman?

    I do like the heroes with low power levels. it adds to the suspense, imo... I'm not too crazy about Hyperion and Captain Universe being on the Avengers team now... It seems that the problems they face will be all too easy to solve... I love the charactes, but I'd prefer to see them on their own, fighting galaxy level evil...

    I'm also a big fan of Daredevil. Also, I like the latest version of Moon Knight (especially with the three personalities in his head.) I would LOVE to see a JESSICA CAGE series... Note, not a Heroes for Hire where she's part of Luke's team... JUST Jessica Cage, P.I. She'll wear a trench-coat, carry a bat, and drive a motor-cycle...

    In the D.C. universe Night Wing is about my favorite hero, but the things the Bat Family can do... well, like you mentioned about Bat Man, they exceed just peak human... But we love 'em for it...

    @Timandm: true true. I do like it when their are weaker, i just have a problem with the whole "Im so trained I actually hang aroundd with super beings". although i admit i enjoy Green Arrow and other non powered street levels. it just takes much longer to get used to I guess
