They Hate Each Other... But I Like It 0

Hawk and Dove starts with a new series with a nice and new #1 along with 51 other series. Is this series that you should be reading over the others?  THE GOOD: The story starts off really good. I liked the scene of danger Sterling Gates gives you reading this right of the back. I love the writing between the two characters. I liked then as a team but who knew they would also be so cool apart. Hawk has just lost his brother and despises Dove but Dove isn't telling him everything. I also love the ...

Falls short both storywise and visually 0

"Hawk and Dove" was one of the biggest surprises when DC announced their New 52 lineup of titles. It's been a while since the pair have had their own book and I was looking forward to grabbing this title. It's to bad that what we get is a mediocre and ultimately forgettable first issue. Writer Sterling Gates starts the book with a rather abrupt one page introduction to a self-described "science terrorist"  named Alexander Quirk. Quirk has a cargo plane filled with genetically enhanced zombies t...

A comic is more than just a story 0

Hawk and Dove fight scifi cyborg zombies and try to find their place in this new world. Also, Deadman.  The Good The story is yet another angle of supehero life. Before the reboot, the sole motivation for heroes to do good was "I do good things because doing good things is good." This was most evident with the Teen Titans of days gone by. Here, we have two people stuck working together because some higher power tells them to. One is not happy with the arrangement at all, the other is "Comfortabl...

Did They Not Get the Memo About the Revamp? 0

In this new Hawk & Dove relaunch, Sterling Gates appears to have completely missed the point of the big DC revamp while Rob Liefeld does his thing. It is a weak start to a series that doesn't show much chances of improvement.  We know Batman has gone relatively untouched by the revamp. We know Green Lantern has as well. I think many readers approve of that and even more at least understand the reasoning. But what about Hawk & Dove? Inexplicably, they seem to have gone untouched by the bi...

    DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE !!!!!!!! 2

Review for Hawk & Dove.  The Story: Hawk & Dove stop a plane robbery of some sort of super zombie.  The Good: Well the action scene on the plane was nice and reminded me of Die Hard for some reason. It's nice to see that Hawk doesn't hide his identity as a superhero to his dad. Liefeld's art isn't as bad as I taught it would be.  The Bad: That still doesn't mean Im a fan of the art, it's Liefeld. The close ups on characters faces are plain ulgy to see and the damn lines on the characters...

Don't blame it on Liefeld. 0

That isn't bad but it is not good. It's meh at best and looks pretty much what i would expect from an beginning amateur artist.    But we all knew that...We were all just hoping the writing would be good and there in lies the problem. What's with this book is pretty much summed up in the "Good" part of Starkiller809's review. He states as good points that Hawk's brother recently died and they are trying to figure out how to work together and the conflict in their personalities is really cool pre...

    HAWK SMASH! 0

The Good: Yes, Rob Liefeld's art is bad. It's really bad. But at the same time, if you turn your brain down to the lowest setting, it at least looks kind of cool. But if you try to process any simple thoughts it looses it again. It was good to give us some history. I like that Hawk went to see his father, setting up a lot of information I didn't get in 26 issues of Brightest Day and 15 issues of Birds of Prey. Some elements of the plot seem interesting. The conspiracy angle is played out quite f...

    New Avatars! 1

Hawk and Dove #1 Ok so the only reason I'm subscribed to this title is because I loved Justice League and Justice League unlimited (the animated series). Also I read all of Brightest Day and I liked these two characters. Anyways so this first issue is about Hank (hawk) and Dawn (Dove) stopping a science terrorist's, Alexander Quirk, plans of attacking a washington monument with like a super zombie thing. Hawk and Dove are offered a partnership by Washi Watanabe with the D.C.P.D. Hawk and Dove ha...

Hawk & Dove & the meh issue EN ESPANOL 0

Avatars of War and Peace are losing their battle with readers. 2

Right off out of the "Gates" this issue gets a failing grade because it is not accessible like the 52 promise. This issue depends way too much on Brightest Day for a new reader to have a chance to really get it. It seems the weak 52 issues are more plot driven while the better ones are more character driven.Sterling Gates should of spent more time making the readers love the character rather then furthering the after math of Brightest Day.Cheers- Silkcuts...

Not my Hawk and Dove 0

Hawk and Dove #1Hawk & Dove was the title I knew was most likely to fail upon release mainly because it's a team made up of two heroes that nobody cares about anymore. The original Hawk & Dove team was great because you had Hank & Don Hall. Then came a little indie comic event called Crisis on Infinite Earths and Don died. Sterling Gates is a writer I am completely unfamiliar with though I'm somewhat familiar with Rob Liefeld though exactly why everyone hates his art is puzzling beca...

Where you really come from 0

As opposed to many of the other new 52 titles which I have read, this one takes a different approach from the beginning.  Instead of taking time to introduce the characters to the fans who might have just come on board, the writers leap right into the action here.  It is an interesting beginning and I felt like it gripped me, but the problem being is that the rest of the issue didn't follow suit.  With the action as a lead-in the rest of the issue became one of a bit of dry soul searching.  Of c...

Read DC Universe presents #1-5... Deadman first! 0

First of all... I really dig Hawk & Dove. After reading this first issue I wasn't quite sure if I should really pick up the second issue, too, but now I'm already through #5 and must say, it's a pretty good story - it gets better page by page, issue by issue - with brilliant art and colors. Most of all I like the characterization of the 2 main protagonist (and later on, of other characters, too ... no spoiler intended). The duo of good (Dove) and evil (Hawk), always teasing each other but als...
