Origin
Alex Summers is the younger son of Christopher Summers - Corsair, and his wife Katherine. Christopher was a test pilot for the air force. When flying on a charter plane, the Summers were attacked by a spaceship from the Shi'ar Empire. There was only one parachute, so Katherine pushed Alex and his older brother Scott out of the plane.
Believing their parents dead, Scott and Alex were separated. Alex was adopted while Scott recovered from his head injury in a coma. Alex was being watched by the evil geneticist Mr. Sinister.
When Alex first showed signs of his mutant powers, Sinister placed a genetic lock on Alex. Alex's mutant powers did not fully emerge until after he finished college. Alex could absorb and transform cosmic radiation.
Alex came into contact with the X-Men when they saved him from the Living Monolith. Alex's powers were getting out of control so he ran off. Alex was found by a mutant hunting robot known as a Sentinel. Alex was taken to the Sentinel's creator's son, Larry Trask. It was Trask who gave Alex his costume that helped monitor his mutant power and gave him the codename, Havok.
New Starjammers
Eventually Alex joined the X-Men to learn to fully control his powers. It was here that he met and fell in love with fellow mutant, Lorna Dane, also known as Polaris. Later Alex became part of the Magistrates on the island nation of Genosha. Genosha was a nation that enslaved mutants. After the Genoshian government was overthrown, with the help of the X-Men.
Lorna and Alex
Alex became a member of the second version of X-Factor. This X-Factor was funded by the government. It was here that Alex and Lorna were reunited. During a battle with terrorist mutants known as the Brotherhood Of Evil Mutants, Alex seemingly died in an explosion. Alex's psyche was actually transported to Earth-1298, an alternate reality where he was known as Mutant X. Alex was eventually brought back to his comatose body by the dimension-hopping Exiles, and rejoined the X-Men. Alex has moved from Cyclops's shadow and has proven himself as an X-Man. Currently his team of X-Men is in space, chasing his lost brother Gabriel (Vulcan), who was brought back to life as a result of M-Day. While in space Alex reunites with his father Corsair and his Starjammers. The Starjammers unite with the X-men to take down Emperor Vulcan for the murders he has committed both in space and on earth. Soon they learn that Vulcan has become husband to Deathbird, princess of the Shi'ar. While witnessing the murder of the newly awakened D'Ken. The Starjammers attack the newly endowed emperor Vulcan. In the heat of the battle Corsair is murdered by his son Vulcan. Enraged Havok makes a stand and is easily defeated by his brother Vulcan. Meanwhile Darwin retrieves Professor X who had been through in the M'Kraan Crystal which unbeknown to the reader reactivates his diminished telepathy, leaves Shi'ar space with Warpath, Nightcrawler, Hepzibah, Darwin, and Prof.X. Havok the claims the mantle of new leader of the Starjammers, and vows vengeance on Vulcan. Claiming he needs to kill making him no longer an X-Man.
Vulcan forces and Lilandra's forces engage in a civil war while most of the Shi'Ar are not unhappy with an outsider like Vulcan ruling them. Planing to ambush Vulcan and destroy him on the spot Havok initiates a last attempt effort, but is foiled by Vulcan who was warned ahead of time. In the battle Vulcan's ship is destroyed by and unknown enemy later revealed to be the Scy'ar Tal ( death to the Shi'ar and formerly known as the M'Kraan). When Vulcan realized that he cannot fight alone, he asked for a temporary truce between himself and his brother. When they were able to defeat the leader of the Scy'ar Tal, the Shi'Ar began to win against Starjammers and Vulcan instantly betrays his brother once the enemy is defeated by throwing him into a sun. But Alex came back, fully absorbing the energy of the sun and threatened to kill him, but not before Vulcan held the Starjammers hostage, demanding his brother's surrender. He complied to this, but not before destroying the Scy'ar Tal's superweapon.
Divided We Stand
Havok is set to appear in a short story in 'Divided We Stand: Book Two'. This story will tell of what has happened to him after the events of Emperor Vulcan, and will likely shed light upon his future.
Powers
Alex's mutant powers allows him to absorb cosmic energy into his cells and transform it into hot plasma. He can control the intensity of his blasts. His blasts can simply knock a person down or cause objects to explode.
His brother, Cyclops is immune to Havok's powers and Havok is immune to Cyclops' powers.

In the Age of Apocalypse reality Havok and Cyclops works for Sinister.

In the Ultimate universe Havok is field leader of the Academy of Tomorrow.
Earth-1298
Havok of Earth-616 accidentally got caught in an explosion sending his consciousness into Havok of Earth-1298's body. In this reality known as Mutant X Havok is the leader of the Six which consists of himself, Madelyne Pryor, Iceman, The Fallen (Angel), The Brute (Beast) and Bloodstorm (Storm).
