Cue the Imperial March music.  Sing it with me..."Dun dun dun dun du-dun du du-dun..."  I don't get why people complained about the X-Men in Space arc.

1) It was written by Ed Brubaker.  'Nuff said.
2) It was penciled by Billy Tan.
3) It was actually pretty cool.

I liked that we got to see the X-Men off planet.  Let's see them somewhere they haven't been in a while.  Yeah, Vulcan is a little too powerful but we always need the bad-ass characters to come around to shake things up.  Just look at what he represents.  He's a friggin' Summers Brother but he will kill at the drop of a hat if it suits him.  Look at poor Corsair.  People like to complain that Scott is too stiff.  Well, Vulcan is anything but stiff  (except for maybe on the night he met Deathbird).  Uhm, moving on.  Looks like it's "game on!"

The mutant known as Vulcan (and brother to X-Men veterans Cyclops and Havok) has conquered the Shi’ar empire and ascended the throne, but he’ll find his reign challenged in X-Men: Emperor Vulcan #1 (of 5)! Written by Christopher Yost (New X-Men) and penciled by Paco Diaz, with covers by “Young Gun” Billy Tan, this all-new, all-different limited series pits the new Starjammers, led by Havok, against his brother’s Shi’ar forces in an intergalactic clash of titans! But as both sides delve deeper into this conflict, each must question their positions. Is Vulcan really the savior of the Shi’ar? Do the X-Men, now aligned with the Starjammers, truly belong in this battle? And can Vulcan be stopped after already defeating the X-Men once before?

During the acclaimed “Rise & Fall Of The Shi’ar Empire” storyline, Havok and his team of X-Men vowed to stop his rogue brother from destroying the lives of billions. But as the group of renegades prepares for the final confrontation with an entire empire, they must also confront their own personal demons if they hope to survive on the battlefield. Meanwhile, Vulcan’s quest for domination continues and we’ll see just how things have changed during his reign!

This fall, the intergalactic tension just got ratcheted up to 11...and two brothers are on a crash course with destiny! But when X-Men: Emperor Vulcan is said and done, will Havok and Vulcan still be enemies? Of course, that’s assuming they survive!

And don’t miss Uncanny X-Men: Rise & Fall Of The Shi’ar Empire HC, by Eisner-Winning “Best Writer” Ed Brubaker, which shows just how Vulcan took control…and what the X-Men sacrificed in their battle against him!

Today feels like Ed Brubaker Day.  Three news articles about the man.  So his year-long "epic" is just about over.  I know people have had mixed feelings about it.  I've enjoyed it.  It's been nice to get the X-Men away from Earth and the mansion.  I'm still on the fence over Vulcan but I've been diggin' Darwin.  I hope he finds his way out of the M'kraan Crystal.

It's been a long year for the team of mutants in Uncanny X-Men, as writer Ed Brubaker has put them through the paces for the last 11 issues, all leading up to this moment! Uncanny X-Men #486 brings readers the conclusion of "The Rise and Fall Of The Shi'ar Empire" and not everyone will be returning to Earth! We've got the M'Kraan Cystal, a psychotic man atop the Shi'ar throne and a girl with the power of the Phoenix Force—what more do you need to know?

Critically acclaimed scribe Ed Brubaker and "Young Gun" artist Billy Tan have delivered 11 action packed issues, with fans riveted by the ride! "With drama, action, and intergalactic adventure the likes of which the X-Men haven't seen in far too long, 'The Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar Empire' has been quite an amazing run," said Aaron Stueve of BrokenFrontier.Com.

Don't miss the pulse pounding conclusion this May, as Uncanny X-Men will never be the same! Not everyone's coming back to Earth and the ones that do will find that the consequences of their actions will carry through to this fall's top secret X-Men event. As one door closes, another opens…let's just hope the X-Men can survive it!
