The Good
This comic's $1.99! If you're not reading this series yet then here's incentive enough for you to do so, it's the start of a new arc so jump in!
There are 3 covers for this issue by Capullo, Larsen, and Ottley respectively . Each has it's on charm, but I most appreciated the Ottley cover. Capullo continues to kill it on the pencils this issue. Delivering the same visceral and bone jarring action sequences that he's delivered since his take over of the art duties in issue 7. While this issue's light on action he definitely makes the most of the panels dedicated to it in the start of this issue. I love the way this guy sets up his battles, they're always dynamic and frenetic, but never difficult to follow, which is very difficult to pull off. Capullo has a gift for displaying chaos in a highly orderly manner. and just like his work on Invincible, Plascencia's colors really brings the pencils to life and makes everything pop with an undeniable vibrance.
In this issue we're introduced to a couple of new faces; agents Park, Weathers, and Rodus, who will make up Daniel's strike team against Arc Light. Early on in this issue it's established that Park is that guy, you know...that guy. The top man who feels threatened by the new hot shot rookie agent and all the attention he's getting. Though Daniel shrugs off Park's insults you can feel the tension growing between the two. It's going to be very interesting to see how these two coexist with one another during this integral mission.
Early in the issue we get a little peak at the "Apparition", Haunt's other major enemy of this arc. He's hunting Kurt and manages to catch him. I like the way that Daniel's concern for Kurt's safety is displayed. It's always nice to see these two have moments like this, considering their rocky past. Ithere's one scene in particular in which Daniel is staring out of his window zoned out and worrying about Daniel as his girlfriend Autumn talks to him. Kurt's absence also affects Daniel on a more practical level. If he's not around the brothers can't combine to form Haunt, the Agency's trump card in the field. With the events that happen towards the last scene of this issue we see that that's really goin' to be a problem.
The Bad
This issue only has about 22 pages, so it's a very, very brisk read.
Not a lot of action happens this issue, just set up for bigger events to come.
The Verdict
Buy This comic!
It's a buck .99 and a very fun read, despite it being light on action and short in length. It's a bridge but it's got some lovely scenery to enjoy.
