i actually cant understand why there pratically no fans of harry potter on this site.

i can understand why you would hate twilight but harry potter?

its well written, there's  character develpoment, not to mention the creativity of mythology behind it is supreme

i never read the books and i am not sure when they 1st came out but in my family reading to kids bed time story just wasnt part of the upraising with you know parents having to work, cook and whatnot.

aside from that i actually like the movies i didnt say i didnt. i just find certain things about the stories ridiculous and nonsensical even if it is make believe.
they still have parents and it is based on parent behavior and certain laws that are present in the muggle word as well as the wizard world.
that is why it doesnt make sense to enforce some rules and laws here and blatantly ignore laws and rules there..

I can't quote but every problem they mention in the 'Why Harry Potter Sucks' is actually addressed in the books. Going by just the movies is like calling yourself an X-Men expert having only watched the movies.

I've never read the books. From what I've heard and seen, the books sound pretty good. The characters sound interesting and more developed.

But I was displeased by the movies. And Harry Potter kind of annoys me. I kind of wanted him to die. I can only hope he's more interesting and likable in the books. Also, I thought some parts were pretty scary for children. The Dementors? Even as a preteen, I probably would have slept with the light on. But the movies seemed to play up bullying and silliness very appropriate for children and less likable for me as a member of an older audience. It was this disparity in the movies that made me scratch my head.

But as I said, the books seem to be presented better than the movies. Stories crammed into two hours and made to get money in the box office are bound to be less. *shrugs*

@HolySerpent: Well, viewing the movies as a 20-21 year old might make a difference. I didn't seem them "growing up," I saw them all at once. I think I would have preferred consistency over "growing up and darker." I can enjoy children's films, and I can enjoy dark films. But trying to merge the two together is something I don't think was done successfully in the movies. It just left a bad taste in my mouth.

@HolySerpent: *shrugs* He just seemed like he could do no wrong. He was famous, he got hot girls. He was powerful even though he was just a boy. Yeah, he got picked on by bullies, but I would have picked on the "chosen one" too. I be it was nice to be a wizard at the time and know that you would never be as good as Harry Potter. And nothing especially bad could happen to him because it was HIS series. I personally would have liked a series on Snape. ;)

I reckon the movies were pretty good too. Everytime a new one is coming out I go to the cinema to watch it, I try to go to premier screenings so I can laugh at all the dweebs who dress up like wizards and witches (only laughing because I too secretly want to join them).

Snape is really the only good character in the books and coincidentally is the only awesome character in the movies. Alan Rickman was the perfect choice for that role. Although, he's so good at what he does that it's pretty humiliating watching those terrible actors that play the leads interact with him.

I've read all Potter books and though I'm not a fan, I was entertained. I feel it was better than the movies.

With that said, I prefer Earthsea and The Name of the Wind over Potter for the "Wizard School" genre. That's just me.

Harry Potter is a poorly written series, with incredibly cliched plots, the worst resolution to a saga ever, and an insulting read all around. The final book, in particular, is one of the greatest affronts to literature in history.

" Harry Potter is a poorly written series, with incredibly cliched plots, the worst resolution to a saga ever, and an insulting read all around. The final book, in particular, is one of the greatest affronts to literature in history. "

Wow, with such a succinct argument, you sure proved me wrong. With that kind of superb articulation of point it makes sense that you enjoyed the series.

" I love harry potter but I always thought a normal human would break a wizards ass lol.Seriously, wizards are probably much weaker and more out of shape then the normal person. And a wizard still has enough speed to dodge spells. If Voldemort had come up on me and tried to start shiiii I woulda dodged his green blast and mike tysoned his face manProblem effin solved.A muggle man defeats the Dark Lord with one punch. ONE PUNCH!!!And you know what else I figured out why Voldemort had never really expanded to the united states. He stayed in England because if he ran up to some doods in the states chances are he would got his as shot lol.Problem effin solved.A gang banger defeats the Dark Lord with one bullet. ONE BULLET!!! "
You obviously skimmed the books. "
