Now that we know Andrew Garfield will be Spider-Man (and how much he's getting paid for it), a new rumor has surfaced. Oh No They Didn't stumbled across Anton Yelchin as Harry Osborn on Yelchin's IMDB page. If IMDB is reporting it, it must be true, right?

The page does list him as being "rumored" for the part but since it's listed in his credits, perhaps there may be some possibility of this possibly being true.

The question is, is Yelchin, or more importantly, is his hair right for the role? He's six years younger that Andrew Garfield but I'm sure they can pull playing the same age. Yelchin has played different types of roles. You've probably seen him as Kyle Reese in Terminator Salvation and Chekov in Star Trek. I just saw him the other day in a 2007 movie with Robert Downey Jr (that I mentioned on the podcast) called Charlie Parker.

I loved James Franco as Harry but Yelchin wouldn't be a bad choice. If he does play Harry, who will play Norman and will we see the Green Goblin (again)?

Whoooo...? :)

I'm happy for relative unknowns to get the big roles.  But he looks about 14 though...

We know for sure that there will be Lizard in the 1st movie of a new movieline. And I'm sure that we'll see Ultimate Green Goblin in the next one.

kinda weird i wish the last spidey had turned out better cause Franco did Harry well & really the matter at hand is deciding a villain.

#4 Posted by PatriceHarvey (21 posts) - - Show Bio

Is juste me or Spider-Man is for "kid".

#5 Edited by ComicMan24 (147032 posts) - - Show Bio

Not sure about him. As for Norman Osborn, I'm ok with him in the movies but not as Green Goblin. This was covered in the previous trilogy.
P.S.: Franco's hair also didn't look like Harry's. I can't imagine how his hair would look in real life.

no no NO NO

he's an ideal Spider-Man imo

#7 Posted by Cherry Bomb (3189 posts) - - Show Bio

Not bad, not bad.  [:  haven't heard of him, so I'll definately look forward to seeing him as Harry if it turns out to be true.  Anton resembles Harry atleast.

He certainly has a way with the ladies ...

That 2007 movie he was in with Robert Downey Jr. was Charlie Bartlett, not Charlie Parker.

Anywho, I could actually see him in the role...appearance wise. But I think Anton Yelchin comes off a bit too geeky or awkward to play a hot shot, ladies man like Harry Osborn.

I wanted this guy for Spider-Man

OH BOY! MORE POINTLESS RUMORS!
#12 Posted by Icemizer (181 posts) - - Show Bio

Looks like Spiderman is falling into the Superman rut. We dont need Luthors or Osborns in every film. Lets move on people. There are tons of villians in the Spidey closet that would make for a great film. In fact if you want to attract a cross audience bring in Man-Wolf and have him played by some young twenty something. Spidey vs werewolf would be huge box office right now.

@Icemizer: Then people would complain about how there was no Osborn. I personally don't mind either Osborn being there at all, he is a pretty constant aspect of Peter's life. But we can do without the Green Goblin or any other Osborn themed villains.
#14 Posted by InvincibleRickG (4 posts) - - Show Bio

He looks like he could be Harry, but I don't think he could pull it off. I didn't like him as Chekov or Kyle Reese, and I feel I wouldn't be convinced he was Harry.

Jesus Christ! I hated this guy in Star Trek! Everytime he came on I wanted to punch the screen! Worst fake Russian accent I have ever heard. I really hope this isn't true (then again it probably isn't. I don't remember the build-up to big movies being this annoying pre-internet days, sigh).

@xerox-kitty:  He's not an unkown, he's been in Charlie Bartlett, Terminator Salvation, and Star Trek.  He's a good actor.

OMG I loved him in Charlie Bartlett, that was one really great movie. :]

Probably meant to most people he isn't the most known name out there. Like Tobey Macguire is or some like Orlando Bloom, etc. If you asked some random person who Anton Yelchin was, chances are they wouldn't know. He is a good actor, but he isn't the most popular, I do think he is underrated. Much like Heather Ledger pre-Dark Knight.

This kid stole the show in Alpha Dog, which is where that swimming pool screenshot is from. He was decent in Terminator: Salvation but his role was a bit gimmicky in Star Trek. Really though, any doubters should just watch Alpha Dog.

I don't think he's an unknown.

I liked him in Alpha Dog (Where this image is from)  but it seems like he's popping up in way too many remakes or reboots or sequels in iconic roles made famous by other actors. He's the new Charley Brewster in the (unnecessary) Fright Night remake as well.
#22 Posted by Cherry Bomb (3189 posts) - - Show Bio
@sniktawt:  well I mean he's not as known as most younger actors. I haven't seen Star Trek or Alpha Dog, or anything he's been in  xD   he's not really well known in the press either.

I could honestly do without another spiderman movie for a while.

Isn't this set during high school? I've only read Amazing Spider-man but Peter didn't meet Harry until college. Or did he meet him earlier than that in the ultimate universe?

#28 Posted by hellfiregod529 (43 posts) - - Show Bio

Tommy lee jones for norman osbourne.

well I've read somewhere that there setting the story in College, since Andrew Garfield is older.

me too, I'm getting mental whiplash with all these rumours back and forth.
I wish they'd make a decision, stick to that decision and announce it already!  [:

@Cherry Bomb:
I think First Class has been the worse for rumours and speculation though. There's new rumours on a daily basis about just the cast
#35 Posted by Cherry Bomb (3189 posts) - - Show Bio
@cosmic master:  I think the X-Men: First Class rumours are all just that, rumours. In an attempt to throw us off so they can fling some sort of surprise on us. But since the films release date is June 3 2011, less than a year away, I think we'll be hearing official announcements very, very soon.

This guy should be Peter and Andrew as Harry.

Great choice imo

PUKE !!!

I don't have the energy to spew how much I hate this. They are butchering the New Spiderman with metro sexual tools.  What are they doing just seeing who happened to look like a character like oh they both have red hair, that sounds good enough hire him.

Of course it can't be any worse than last time. I'm still waiting for the official apology to fans for Spider-man 3.
#39 Posted by ComicCrazy (1537 posts) - - Show Bio

I gotta say I do like the fact that they are getting less popular actors to play these characters and I think this guy could do a pretty good job as Harry.

Try not to think of the movies in terms of comic continuity. It'll only give you headaches :P
There's so much history on the page the movie producers are best off picking and choosing what they want to use and goin' from there.
#43 Posted by luowenla (3 posts) - - Show Bio

that"s very well.
#44 Posted by cosmic master (18 posts) - - Show Bio
@Gylan Thomas:
Yeah I know not to look for direct adaptions of what's written in the comics but I still like to see the basics done right.
Buy anyway it doesn't bother me too much I was just curious. The first Spider-man film they were in high school together and I still loved that film

I think he'd make a Yelchin would've been a good Peter but Garfield woudln't be a good Harry.

I'd hate to see Spidey V's Manwolf. It'd make the movie cross genre and date it because of the whole werewolf/ vamp craze. Wouldn't help with the Spider twilight critism either.
I put that idea on the same level as the rumours that Morbius was gonna be in the original Spidey movies. It's a superhero flick not a horror.

Metro sexual tools?! Lemme guess, you're one of those WWE-type macho dudes that wear mustard-stained muscle shirts and is clearly overcompensating for something.

And btw, Anton has brown hair.

I could live with that.

Mr. Garfield shouldn't even be in Spider-Man. If they want a Peter Parker, Yelchin is more a Parker than an Osborne by a long shot. Marvel casting has gone crazy in my book. First Chris Evans as Cap, now all this.
