Joker and Harley Quinn

maybe he keeps her around because she admires him loads an he likes the fact that he has a fan

#2 Posted by MrsJ (304 posts) - - Show Bio

Why do you think the Joker keeps Harley around for? Is it love? Is it the fact that she's a great fighter and doesn't want her working for the other side? What is it? Because he could have killed her a looooong time ago, but she's still around.

#3 Posted by MrsJ (304 posts) - - Show Bio

I thought of that, too. Because it proves to him how awesome he truly is.

Well, yeah. But, why shouldn't he? The Joker is just THAT great!

Do you think the Joker and Harley Quinn will EVER get back together? She has been through a lot in the last year. After getting away from the Joker she joined the secret six, then went on to become an amazon (or something) and now she has gained powers from the gods. I think she needs a little break and she needs to get back into that harequin outfit!

Yes, they have to! I think that DC is forgetting who Harley really IS. She's the Joker's henchgirl, his pumpkin pie, and I think his heart. He loves her, after all, and Harley isn't Harley if she doesn't love her Puddin'. Well, and if DC doesn't want to give Harls back to Mr J... well, more for me (hihihi... sigh...)!

However... PUT HER BACK IN HER PUDDIN'S ARMS, DC!

There you go! Someone on here with SOME SENSE! Harley Quinn NEEDS the JOKER! SHE NEEDS HIM! Damn DC is messing with their characters! The Joker is fine without Harley, but it doesn't work the other way around.

Well, Harley Quinn stories are also good when she's with Ivy.

In quintessential form Harley would represent love. She is the iconic comic book symbol for romance and tomfoolery. Without her blind passion for the Joker she wouldn’t be the same innocent character Bat-Fans have fallen in love with. In the animated universe Harley Quinn was nothing without her Puddin’ or Poisson Ivy; the female friend she’d reach out to when the Joker would through her into the streets to fend for her self. But, as impossible as it may seem Harley was once a clever physiatrist. Now, since the Countdown and other events have occurred Harley has left the Joker to become a wondering fool. Until, she was granted powers from the Greek goddess Thail. Now what will come of her?

I don’t approve of the idea that Harley has gained superpowers and has lost her love. Sadly, the DC Company is messing with one of their most loved characters. As I have said before Harley NEEDS her Puddin’!

Greek Godness Thail???? Who, the Muse of Comedy? Aw, God!!! Poor Harls... However, I knew the rest of the story, but thanks.

In which story arc did this take place in? I mean, the 'amazonian super powers' canon butchering. =( DC, what on earth are you doing to your characters!?

countdown to final crisis I think it was issue number 12 (not sure)

it had harley, mary marvel and holly robinson against Granny Goodness as the cover

the gods give Mary her powers back, she had lost them during 52 then became evil after Black Adam gave Mary his power and was Eclipso's student. Then she loses the Black Adam power and is depowered again. However the gods decide to give Mary her powers back for rescuing them and after Harley asks for a little bit of that power the gods give her and Holly their own abilities, apparently they lost them already and both are back in Gotham so problem solved lol

You really sure? Well, yes, but Ivy always tries to put Harls against her Puddin'. And to me the plant girl is a bit stuck-up. And we know Mistah J is the BEST.

No she needs to die. Her character is terrible now.

Incidently, I found her more ammusing as Poison Ivy's partner in crime rather than pretending to be an idiot for a guy who's married to his job. She & Ivy were like the straight-man & the fat sidekick in a comic duo, only without the fat.

He kept her around to baptize his new image in the blood of his henchmen. I'm pretty sure he tried to kill her twice in Emperor Joker.

Joker should die....Harley should live.I hate the Joker.

Maybe the Comedian & Silk Spectre thing will happen between them, maybe a one-two or just a nice smack.

If he can pull it off why can't the Joker?

She should murder him in his sleep and then kick it with Ivy. Ivy gets some, Harley can finally cuddle, and Joker meets the Bossman himself down in the pit. See, everyone wins.

The contrary, he should hit her some more. Suits her character

But isn't that in her character? correct me if i am wrong but isn't she the submissive one , you know as in Joker being more dominant in her relationship. Its like Stanley Kowalski in The Streetcar Named Desire.

Thank heavens she's not into S&M

but you are right, she is a bad role model for women

I'm not saying you're wrong...in fact you are absolutely right.

Stanley Kowalski is the perfect example, actually. It's just upsetting to see any female comic character present herself in a submissive positive CONSTANTLY

Taking harley away from the joker, or empowering harley in any way....well that pretty much kills the character. Thats who she is, Unreasonably submissive, shes in an abusive relationship with a wacko, shes equally wacko, she is entirely dependent. Shes not a leader, shes killing herself for acceptance. Thats Harley.

#32 Posted by HaLong (52 posts) - - Show Bio

I think he is fascinated by her because she's the person with the most similar personality to his.

#33 Posted by Nerx (15088 posts) - - Show Bio

Or his abusive nature will finally break down her happy-go-lucky psyche and turn her into a yes-master type of girl? proper conditioning & abuse can do that given time and consistency

#34 Posted by harleyquinn12 (1767 posts) - - Show Bio

Well,Harley loves The Joker and vice-versa. It might seem that Joker hates harley because she seems like a fangirl. Of course,Harley is more than a fangirl, she loves him. L-O-V-E. It is possible that in Mad Love Joker told Harley these sob stories because he cared for her and that he needed help in his crime spree. Harley is basically just around for the ride as she loves Joker to a full extent. Since The Joker is a villian she becomes one. Harley although isn't just a supporting character, she plays main roles in almost all stories that she appears in. Harley is possibly the greatest comic character ever. She sort of plays a character totally different than what she looks like. This shows up in the fact that she wears a harlequin costume, not to mention the fact that she is incredibly cute with and without her mask.,she doesn't seem dangerous, yet she is. She will do anything to Joker asks but sometimes breaks away. Although it may seem like she and Puddin have broken up,they'll always love each other

I agree  on the whole greatest comic character. even though she is pretty submissive.... ok REALLY submissive, there have been times that have shown that she does indeed have a backbone. she shot joker in the shoulder once, for cripes sake! he might not have been scared, but he should be. shes a character with a lot of potential.

theres a joker thread that talks about if the joker did a really big "joke"  and the superheros would have to keep him alive or else something terible would happen.
well what if they had to do that by saving him from a majorly P.O. harley quinn? like she finally snaps and goes berserk trying to kill him? I think that would be a pretty sweet story line, even if it was a one shot dream sequence-type thing. wich it would kinda have to be, considering it would be impossible to kill off the joker. angry mobs would unite everywhere to burn down dc hq...

#38 Posted by sambow (27 posts) - - Show Bio

i believe he keeps her around to take the fall

#39 Posted by The_Jokes_On_You (73 posts) - - Show Bio

Personally I think that she was originally going to be  some big joke Jay wanted to pull on Bats somehow. But I think after he saw how loyal she was to him the Joker became fascinated with her despite himself. I also think she is around to take his fall, his anger, and I think sometimes to take the emotions no one sees like his fear and maybe whatever lingering sadness there might be in that mind of his.
And maybe he just likes having her to come home to. Like a dog. They are always there to greet you at the door and try to make you feel better. You can either acknowledge them or literally kick them across the room.

Also, I want her back with the Joker. Having her without the Joker is like having the Joker without Batman.
Its all cool, fun and entertaining but eventually people are going to want to see some old nasty fights and beatings.

I've said this before in another forum and I'll say it again:
Harley needs Joker like she needs a bullet in her skull.

After reading most of the comics and the famous ones featuring Harley, she's better off without him.
Joker treats Harley purely like the dirt between his toes. The primary reasons why Joker didn't kill her yet is because:
1. he thinks of her love for him as a joke and makes him laugh because of how Harley is more crazy than him. Joker plays on her delusions about him and her weak pride in her skills as a therapist that allows him to twist her strings and make her dance like a little marionette.
2. her work is done for free; no need to find and hire thugs to assist him and break him out of arkham when he feels like it. He is his most useful ace in the hole.

Harley can do without the Joker.

Her solo series "Harley Quinn" proves it; her character does not need to be dependent in order to thrive.

#43 Posted by notselinakyle (5 posts) - - Show Bio

I'de like to think it's love. I'de like to think that he really, truly deep down, he loves her. But I also think that it's cos she is basically working for him for free. It could be a mixture of things, but I think Harley's the only person that truly see's "Mr J" for just a man, not the crazy psychopath everyone see's him as, but just a man, and she listens to him and care's for him as one, and that's why he keeps her, he needs her. As much as it's obvious that Harley's the one that needs him, (she's the clingy, attached one in the relationship) - deep down Joker needs her just as bad. However in a completely different way. And as much as their love is mad and irregular, it's the only part of normality he has in his life. This is what I believe and think. We mustn't forget Joker is selfish, and only cares about him self. So for him to show even that little glimpses of affection to Harley is something.

#44 Posted by SupBatz (1490 posts) - - Show Bio

People always focus on the bad but never on the good.

Think of all of the times that the Joker and Harley were on the same page. They work very well together when they're not in conflict. For example, some of the Joker's best appearances in Batman TAS were those when Harley and he coexisted without him kicking her out or abusing her. When she's on the same page as him and they are able to seamlessly play off of one another. For me, that is when both characters are at their best.

And in a sick way, I think the Joker's keeping Harley around is truly driven by some form of caring. Not convenional in any way of cource. He has not qualms with killing her but at the same time he's been shown, on occassion, to be very possessive of her. He likes having her around as someone who enjoys the joke as much as he does. And next to Batman she is the only other person in the world who the Joker considers to be somewhat significant.

Well, the Joker is extremely arrogant, and needs somebody to give him his ego fix. He is clearly incapable of love, but Mad Love suggested that he just needed another henchman.
