harley and the joker's relationship part 1

most people don't like the way the joker treats Harley Quinn but to me i think Harley thinks that is his way of showing affection. i believe that as well. as we all know the joker is not a normal person [not sane] so his methods are a little different from us every day humans. the thing to think about did Harley know what she was getting herself into when she feel in love with the joker at Arkham asylum. some people say that Harley's intelligence is being played way to down. i think that Harley deep down is smart enough to see that her and the joker's relationship is not right. she probable has realized that but pushed it away because she knows her puddin loves her in some way in his clod decrepit heart... My question is that do you think that Harley should be with the joker or not?

I mentioned on your previous post, I often wish harley would get own independent series. (the closest thing so far is Gotham City Sirens which I am thoroughly enjoying) Harley I believe does realize how wrong her relationship is, but as I also Harley has never had a strong female role model in her life, and this has made her dependent upon the joker. I believe the reasoning behind Harley's obsession had to do with the Joker perhaps being more messed up than even her. Harley had a decently messed up childhood and worked hard to become psychiatrist, when she met someone who (though lying) appealed to everything she wanted to hear Harley accepted her creating her "mad love" . Maybe because of Catwoman and Ivy she will one day realize that she does not need the Joker at all, and break away, I will write a better response later this in between my studying so it is very rough and I did not use any real diagnostic names I should have.

Harley did have her own Series for a while Here. But i do think your right saying Ivy and Catwoman will eventually help her overcome the Joker. In Gotham City Sirens we do see here better than when she's with the Joker She's much more intelligent in this series.

Harley is far better solo than with the Joker.I think Mr.J should be killed off to be honest.

I really want to read those now..and I completely agree the characters in the Sirens are all very well written, Harley solo is so complex, and I believe has a lot more potential than even the Joker as a Villain.

@thehummingbird: It was an Okay series..Yeah they are really well written Gotham City Sirens series is one of my favourites. Hmm alot more potential never thought about that before but i think Joker's just more ruthless than Harley which too me doesn't seem like the makings of a Villain. Id much prefer Harley to be an Anti-Villain like Poison Ivy is.

You are right she would work better as an Ivy like character..that is probably why I enjoy their tag team so much. She is not ruthless, but dangerous Harley is a very smart person, but she chooses to set aside her logic, the Joker puts aside logic yet he still thinks things through more so than Harley ever does. Also because Harley is a newer character I believe she has more room to grow and establish herself.

@thehummingbird: Your right Harley is a very smart person and that why i don't like her with the Joker her intelligence is severely downplayed when with him. And thats why i like her with Ivy cause she's herself Smart but she's still herself that and the fact they work great together as characters.

Yes, she belongs with Joker. I really do think the love each other Harley for real and Joker as much as he can love. Love make the smart stupid, the calm violent, and on and on. also think of all the time Joker trys to kill her. I think it's beccause she brings out the last tiny bit of human in him.

NO FRIGGIN WAY is harley gonna be a bigger villian than the j-man,she's an annoyance at best.

In the DCAU comics, sure, but in current comics, nah. I think the only person the Joker has any kind of bond with is Batman. Joker sees Harley like a toy; something to play with, something he doesn't want to share, something that can be abused & disposed of. But also like a loyal puppy that forgives a stray kick in the side from an abusive owner.

The Joker is a sociopath. Sociopaths are quoted as having glibness & superficial charm, manipulative & conning, grandiose scene of self, pathological lying, lack of remorse/shame/guilt, shallow emotions, incapacity for love, need for stimulation (Batman), lack of empathy, poor behavioral controls/impulsive nature, irresponsibility/unreliability, promiscuous sexuality (possibly gay) & infidelity, lack of realistic life plan/parasitic lifestyle (using other people), &   Criminal or Entrepreneurial Versatility.

Just want to point out a plothole in GCS: Joker killed her Hyenas years ago in "A Clown At Midnight."
