It's Valentines Day, but Harley has a bigger problem then finding a date.

Valentines Day is all about love, but for Harley Quinn it can be quite sad. Without the Joker in her life, what will Harley possibly do? Well, smart people would eat ice cream at home and drown their problems with movies, but Harley instead is going to run for her life and murder prisoners. I guess that helps as well?

Out of the 4 issues that have been released, I will say this is my favorite. Putting aside the main story of Harley's current dilemma and how it still doesn't make much sense, this Valentines Day themed issue was actually enjoyable. We have Harley Quinn on Valentines Day fighting for her life because of a gift that Poison Ivy left behind from last issue. A very predictable story that ends exactly the way you'd think; Harley Quinn beats the love struck prisoners and the enhanced attraction runs out at just the very end of the issue. So it's nothing new in terms of story. However, the story around that concept was really enjoyable and the writers played with it very well.

Writers Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti had a lot fun in this issue. Yes, they do have fun in all the issues so far, but when the main conflict isn't mentioned as much like in prior issues, it gave the writers an opportunity to cut loose a bit with this story. If the series was treated more like a TV sitcom, just in comic book form, I think Harley Quinn's series would do better (in terms of story) then what it is currently doing.

The artwork by Chad Hardin and colors by Alex Sinclair is still great. The two work well together and they really know how to make this look enjoyable.

    The Bad

This series needs to find an anchor. It's gone from pet adoption to Valentines day in just two issues. We do have a bounty on Harley Quinn's head, but it does hold any weight or importance cause HQ has been dealing with it so far with ease. If this series acted more like a comic book sitcom, it'd be enjoyable. However, instead we've got mystery and supposedly, peril involved in this series. If, or when, this series gets anchored into whatever it is really supposed to be, I'm sure it'll be better.

    The Verdict

You have either greatly enjoyed this series or been underwhelmed by it. It does have aspects that are enjoyable, like this Valentines themed story, but it still feels like this comic book series would do better as a a animated TV sitcom. Overall 3 out of 5.

There's something about Harley.Chad Hardin's art, first of all, reminds me an eensy little bit of Phil Noto's. I don't know if it's the line work, Alex Sinclair's colors, or the combination of both of those elements, but check out the panel on the right from H.Q. # 3. Ah, well. I digress. Ahem! Anyhow, it is gratifying that, three-issues in, readers are not subjected to Harley contending with Batvillains and other DCU crazies as she did in the early issues of her previous solo series.
