super_man_23's Harley Quinn #2 - Helter Shelter review

Where are you going in this series Harley? Adopting animals, really?

Harley Quinn is still settling in her new Brooklyn home with her new friends. However, when a pet adoption facility terminates animals that haven't been adopted yet, it's up to Harley and [special guest] Poison Ivy to perform a rescue mission.

    The Good

The story isn't completely bad. Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti adding Poison Ivy as a special guest in this issue was a nice add. It made reading this story a bit easier, because Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn have always been a good team and it's lead to some decent stories. So it was good on the writers part to have HQ team up with Ivy.

Yeah, it's some nice art, I'll give you that.

The artwork by Chad Hardin and Stephanie Roux is great for this series. The art captures Harley's wild life really perfectly and it makes reading this series a bit easier. The colors by Alex Sinclair compliment that artwork as Sinclair's colors really highlight shadows, light, and those elements appearing as if they bounce off faces and backgrounds. It's really spectacular.

    The Bad

Please do. I'm still waiting for things to get interesting.

I'm still questioning where this series is going. Ever since reading the first issue, then backtracking to issue zero, I don't fully understand the circumstance of events that put Harley Quinn in this situation -- of needing to leave home and go to Brooklyn after the Joker tried to murder her and why she's all of a sudden got a bounty on her head. Granted, there is tease of a real threat to Harley at the end of the issue, but that does not justify what has happened already. Surely the writers are possibly building up to the reveal of why Harley is in this situation, but issues like this just make it feel like we are just reading a piece of Harley's life if she was a solo act instead of working with a character like Joker. That's all this series really has conveyed to me. I do like Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti creative bond that they have when working on a series together, but I would just like some answers (as a reader) to get a better grasp on all that's happened. It wouldn't lead to me questioning things and wondering if this is better as a weekly animated TV series, going episode-by-episode, instead of a monthly comic book.

    The Verdict

It's Harley Quinn, there is something special here, but I'm obviously missing it. That could be all the questions I have and how Harley's story feels more like a sitcom then anything else. I like the writers creative bond and the artwork, but that's not good enough for me to just blindly enjoy this series. Yes there is aspects of this series that are enjoyable, but in terms of story, it's lacking tremendously. Overall 2 out of 5.

Harley Quinn #2 Review and thoughts 0

I'll be honest, I bought Harley Quinn #2 because of the Poison Ivy appearance in it. I didn't like it. There is this problem with Ivy: She is a monster in this comic book. In her first panel she casually murders a random person in the background by feeding him into her plants. She mentions that she only cares about her plans and Harley, nothing else. When New52 I was excited because Poison Ivy, one of my favorite characters seemed to change, to become less violent, slowly turning into an antihe...

Plot:The plot is simple: Harley Quinn tries to adopt some pets from a pet adoption center in order to save them from euthanasia. She fails and calls her old pal Poison Ivy for help. They decide to free them in a PETA fashion. Pets escape and Harley decides to lure them in her new house with some fresh meat. And by meat she means feeding them a hitman that was hired to kill her. We have a couple of lesbian not-so innuendos with Poison Ivy and the introduction of yet another character, Madame Maca...
