Congratulations Hal Jordan fans; your favorite lantern is finally getting his chance to shine on the big screen! Marc Guggenheim, the screenwriter for the Green Lantern film recently told SciFiWire that he has just completed a draft of of the screenplay for the live-action Green Lantern film. While there have been several Green Lanterns, the film's primary focus will be on Hal Jordan's evolution as Green Lantern during the Silver Age of Comics. Obviously, Guggenheim wasn't able to reveal very much to SciFiWire, but we do know that the film will be directed by Martin Campbell and production is set to launch sometime this summer in Sydney Australia for the film's tentative release of June 17, 2011.

I have to say, like many of you, I was very excited to hear that they are finally going to do a Green Lantern film. While Hal isn't my favorite Lantern, he seems to be everyone else's; so ultimately I can't say I have
any complaints. My main concern: will they go by the comics, or will Hal undergo some character alterations? Thanks to Guggenheim, Hal Jordan fans can put their fears at rest:

"The goal here is to do the best cinematic representation of the Green Lantern character. You know, there's no desire on anyone's part to completely change the character and just call this other character Green Lantern and try to ... draft off the name recognition. This is all about 'How do we bring the best version of this character to the silver screen?'"

No news yet on who is set to play the Justice Leaguer. Who would you like to see play the role? Are you excited about the prospect of a Green Lantern film?

wow, they (Warner Bros) actually seem to be taking this sorta thing seriously now. Will be pretty cool to see a non-Batman/Superman DC Comics movie on the big screen.

I always believed a GL film should take place in the 50's/60's. It's give the film so much more depth and the absolute awe of those original stories. It should definitely be one of those "it's own U" type movies but mention of Alan Scott would be a great throwback to the original. This could be a great movie if done well, but it could also be done so bad. Let's cross our fingers.

@Babs:  My apologies!  Like I said, how COULD I get you two confused?  SMACK! to the back of my head!

I  like Stewart, especially how we was portrayed in the JLU animated series, but I have always associated the Green Lantern with Hal Jordan, grew up with him and yes, I was even around when Stewart made his first appearance as a "reserve" GL.

If you ever get a chance to see any Bronze Age Green Lantern comics and how Stewart was portrayed back then..*cringe*..he almost looked like a stereotypical pimp with his 70's attire.

@Babs: Really? Kyle Rayner is mine. I wish they were doing it on him. But then again, there are the Kyle-Haters and you really can't make a Kyle Rayner story without Hal Jordan.

    Those are my votes too.

I know David is a GL fan (He was reading an old comic in an episode of Bones), and Fillion was pretty excited about the fan trailer.

I read somewhere that the original creators based Hal Jordan on Paul Newman. Not sure I could have seen him in the role had they done it back in the day. I could have seen either Mark Harmon or George Eads. Now that it's coming up on 2011, it could be anybody as long as the story is good. As long as it's not Jim Carrey, or somebody like that I'm good. Maybe somebody like Greg Kinnear, only younger.

The only person I think could be a good Hal Jordan is the one, the only...Mark Wahlberg. He looks like Green Lantern, is young enough and he's been in a few action/sci-fi type movies.

Don't you see the similarity between the looks. If you put Mark in a Green Lantern mask you'll see identical twins (metaphorically speaking)

      Hugo Weaving-Sinestro

      Eva Longoria Parker-Carol Ferris/Star Sapphire

Sir Christopher Lee, Sir Ian Mckellen and Peter Cullen (the voice of Optimus Prime in Transformers)-Guardians of the Universe (voice only)

      Vin Diesel-Kilowog (voice only)

      Ralph Fiennes-Tomar-Re (voice only)

      Leonard Nimoy-Abin Sur (voice only)

Jess Harnell (the voice of Ironhide in the Transformers movies)-Legion (voice only)

Brian Cox-Hector Hammond (It'd be good if he really acted but doesn't have a huge head!)

         Will Smith-John Stewert

Brian Austin Green (Derek Reese in Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles)-Guy Gardner

Chris Pine-Kyle Rayner (This could be when he first joins the Corps and he's stil pretty new to the superhero thing)

      Martin Sheen-Alan Scott (Old-Aged)

      Adrian Pasdar-Alan Scott (Young-Aged)

I was thinking there could be a flashback at the beginning telling the story of Alan Scott when he was still young (like in Ghost Rider when they did the same with Carter Slade). They could always save this for a sequel in case they think Alan houldn't meet Hal Jordan just yet.
It wouldn't be bad either if Martin Sheen played the young Alan Scott. Martin Campbell could give him a CGI-created face-lift (Like what they did with Ian Mackellan in the beginning of X-Men: The Last Stand). I don't mind who plays Alan out of Sheen or Pasdar.

Nancy Cartwright (voice of Bart Simpson)-Ch'p
       Jerry O'Connell-Cyborg Superman

Keith David (voice of Spawn in Todd Macfarlane's cartoon series)-Arkillo

Mark Wahlberg-Yellow Lantern (with CGI make-up)

       Zachary Quinto-Black Hand

      Liev Schreiber-Dr. Polaris

What do you think to my idea of a cast for the Green Lantern movie? E-mail me if you want to reply!

Anyone who sees this might find that on the forum topic "Casting the DC Universe", I've changed it so that it is more realistic (Ryan Reynolds for Green Lantern etc.)

I think Gerard Butler would make an Awesome Hal Jordan! He's Tough, he's built (300), he can play a wise ass like he did in Tomb Raider, and i think he'd be perfect for the man with no fear!! On a side note the ONLY person who should play Sinestro is Daniel Day Lewis, his role in "No country for old men" sold me on it, his look with the mustache and his acting abilities would make him PERFECT for Sinestro!.... My choice for Hal's Love interest Carol Ferris (who eventually becomes Star Sapphire) has to be Kate Beckinsale she'd be perfect for the role.

In terms of sequels depending on where they go with the films i'd like to see Bradley Cooper come on as Guy Gardner with Jaime Foxx playing John Stewart..and finally Jake Gyllenhal for Kyle Rayner. A fight between these three and Hal (as parallex) would be incredible. they could also do spin offs with Gyllenhall and Cooper and make a Green Lantern Corps Series, and then either throw Foxx or Butler in the Justice League, or hell BOTH!
In terms of the rest of the cast, i'd love Patrick Stewart to be the voice of Ganthet the leader of the guardians, but if he cant then maybe Chris Lee. Drill Instructor Kilowog should be Dennis Haysbert no question while Lantern Boodika should be non other than Helena Bonam Carter. If they wanted to bring in Soranik Natu as a love interest for Kyle and play the part of Sinestros daughter i'd like to see a hottie like Roselyn Sanchez take that role. so my casting of the GL universe would be as follows

    Hal Jordan - Gerard Butler

    Sinestro - Daniel Day Lewis

    Carol Ferris - Kate Beckinsale

    Abin Sur - Doug Jones

    Ganthet - Patrick Stewart

    Salakk - David Hyde Pierce

    Boodikka - Helena Bonham Carter

    Kilowog - Dennis Haysbert

    Guy Gardner - Bradley Cooper

    John Stewart - Jaime Foxx

    Kyle Rayner - Jake Gyllenhal

    Soranik Natu - Roselyn Sanchez

Mongul - (CGI) voiced by Eric Roberts

    Black Hand - Crispen Glover

    Dennis is way too old
I absolutely love David, but I'm not 100% sold on him getting Hal
    Fillion looks promising
the idea of having Dennis Haysworth do the voice of Kilowog is brilliant... Deep brass sexy voice...
I kinda like the idea of Liev Schreiber as Guy... although I don't know if I could get past the image of him with those nasty claws...
John Stewart definately should not be played by Will Smith or Jamie foxx, we need someone more fresh and less famous for him... Because when people look at Will and Jamie, they see Will and Jamie and not John Stewart. I don't want such a good character to be lost in the hype...

I still think Dennis Quaid should play GL Hal Jordan

Sorry, but Dennis Quaid is probably a little to old for this role.
David Boreanaz , or Nathan Fillion  should play Hal Jordan. "
Dennis is way too oldI absolutely love David, but I'm not 100% sold on him getting Hal Fillion looks promisingthe idea of having Dennis Haysworth do the voice of Kilowog is brilliant... Deep brass sexy voice...I kinda like the idea of Liev Schreiber as Guy... although I don't know if I could get past the image of him with those nasty claws...John Stewart definately should not be played by Will Smith or Jamie foxx, we need someone more fresh and less famous for him... Because when people look at Will and Jamie, they see Will and Jamie and not John Stewart. I don't want such a good character to be lost in the hype..."

thats whay i chose Cuba Gooding Jr as my first choice for John Stewart. Than wesley Snipes as my second choice.

Yea Dennis quaid would work if the movie was based off of reborn, honestly i think they could make him look young again with the make and CGI they do now a days. like Arnold schwartzenager in Terminator Salvation. a CGI version of his younger self would work and he already looks good in the bomber jacket

I don't see Mark Wahlberg as Guy Gardner. But he'd be fantastic for Hal.

It is a bit silly when they make toys like that. If they do then they'll probably make figures of charaters that don't even exist in the film, like they did when they made a Titanium Man figure for the Iron Man movie franchise.
David Boreanaz isn't Hal Jordan in my perspective. Chris Pine is too young for Hal, but he'd be an awesome Kyle Raynor.
