Congratulations Hal Jordan fans; your favorite lantern is finally getting his chance to shine on the big screen! Marc Guggenheim, the screenwriter for the Green Lantern film recently told SciFiWire that he has just completed a draft of of the screenplay for the live-action Green Lantern film. While there have been several Green Lanterns, the film's primary focus will be on Hal Jordan's evolution as Green Lantern during the Silver Age of Comics. Obviously, Guggenheim wasn't able to reveal very much to SciFiWire, but we do know that the film will be directed by Martin Campbell and production is set to launch sometime this summer in Sydney Australia for the film's tentative release of June 17, 2011.
I have to say, like many of you, I was very excited to hear that they are finally going to do a Green Lantern film. While Hal isn't my favorite Lantern, he seems to be everyone else's; so ultimately I can't say I have
any complaints. My main concern: will they go by the comics, or will Hal undergo some character alterations? Thanks to Guggenheim, Hal Jordan fans can put their fears at rest:
"The goal here is to do the best cinematic representation of the Green Lantern character. You know, there's no desire on anyone's part to completely change the character and just call this other character Green Lantern and try to ... draft off the name recognition. This is all about 'How do we bring the best version of this character to the silver screen?'"
No news yet on who is set to play the Justice Leaguer. Who would you like to see play the role? Are you excited about the prospect of a Green Lantern film?
