With a title containing the word 'secret,' one would expect to discover some new startling development. It turns out that even though this story arc hasn't ended yet, quite a few revelations have been laid out for us.

For some time now, we've witnessed the Indigo Tribe and have wondered what their story was. We knew they were somehow tied to Abin Sur and their leader, Iroque aka Indigo-1, was imprisoned by Abin for some reason. Due to other recent events, Sinestro has become a Green Lantern and Hal Jordan is now tied to Sinestro since he was stripped of his own power ring. The Indigo Tribe targeted Sinestro in order to teach him compassion. What we discover in this issue will change things for the future of the title.

We will not reveal all the detail of the issue and you really owe it to yourself to pick it up to discover everything that is happening. There are big things coming in the Green Lantern universe and you won't want to miss out. There will be some spoilers for issue #9 so you have been warned.

== TEASER ==

The Death of Sinestro's Wife

It's no secret that Sinestro was actually married before. It's also not a secret that she was Abin Sur's sister, Arin. The death of Arin had an effect on Sinestro. It would be easy to assume that her death is what changed Sinestro into a colder person but that's not quite the case. We discover that while they were still together, Sinestro had made the decision to impose his will on his home planet of Korugar. He felt that because they had been in a civil war for decade, his decision and will was the correct way for the planet. This didn't go well.

There was opposition to Sinestro's rule. In an attack against him, the destruction is what caused the death of Arin. Because Sinestro did not think of the consequences of his actions, it resulted in the death of the only person he cared about.

The Guardians are Willing to Kill

For months now we've been seeing the Guardians acting a little odd. They're clearly changing their ways and have started doing some questionable things. They've talked about replacing the Green Lantern Corps and are now actively seeking out Sinestro and the Book of the Black.

When questioning one individual on the whereabouts of Sinestro, they were unsatisfied with the response. This poor fellow won't have to worry about not being able to answer questions anymore.

The Location of the Indigo Power Battery

The point of this arc is to find out what the Indigo Tribe is all about. After Sinestro has been converted to the Indigo Tribe, Hal figures the only way to break their hold is to shut off the Indigo Power Battery. His ring is able to inform him of the location and that takes Hal to the Forbidden Jungles on the planet. The battery happens to be inside a giant cavern guarded by an individual named Natromo.

It was Natromo and Abin that discovered the power of the Indigo Light. In other words, they are responsible for the creation of the Indigo Tribe.

What is Abin's Connection to Iroque?

Back in GREEN LANTERN, volume 4 #66, we saw a flashback from the Book of the Black where Iroque was imprisoned by Abin Sur for some reason. Now we know why.

It turns out Iroque was Abin's longtime enemy and actually killed his daughter. Wearing the ring taught her compassion and she regretted her actions. Since then, she has worn an Indigo Tribe power ring.

Who was Abin Preparing to Fight?

Abin Sur had seen the future. He was aware of the Blackest Night. He also knew that after those events, the End of the Corps would come. The Corps would be "destroyed by an evil hidden from sight, an evil from within!"

When Hal asked who this evil was, Natromo answered, "The Guardians of the Universe." We already know that they have been planning to replace the Corps but it turned out that Abin knew as well. And now Hal knows. Hopefully Hal will be able to do something about it before the entire Corps is destroyed!

This isn't all that happened. When Hal told Natromo that Abin was dead and wouldn't be coming back to to lead the attack against the Guardians, he decided to do something a bit drastic. We also discover what "Nok" means. For these answers and others, you'll have to buy GREEN LANTERN #9 to find out. Hal is getting in over his head. The end of everything as they know it is on its way. If you haven't been reading, now is the time to catch up before it all hits the fan.

Great issue. I loved that even though I only started reading Green Lantern with the new 52 I was able to understand what was going on in this arc, and even appreciate the weight of some of the revelations. Although it still bothers me both in New Guardians and this book, people just forge rings, they just make them like its some sort of common knowledge :/

I actually miss Ganthet, I wonder if at some point they'll be able to cure him from his brainwash...

Well, it's a weaponner of Qward that forged Arkillo's new ring, they were the people who forged the yellow ring in the first place, and the more we discover about him through flashbacks, the more we get the impression that Abin Sur knew all the secrets of the universe before he died. And yes this issue was great!

The Guardians have been acting funny cause they have the same problem as the Manhunters...without emotion they're goin nuts. I'm wonderin if certain ones of the Guardians are going to be revealed in the death of Abin Sur...That the reason why Abin Sur selected a person from Earth was because of fearing that they would pick someone not willing to fight them.
Definitely will pick this up.

I think the big thing to note is that one by one, each of the Lantern Corps are being disabled...

The Indigo Battery is off, the Yellow Lantern is buried, The Red Lantern is corrupted, (I suspect the Guardians attempted to have Larfleeze killed by setting up the Invictus storyline), The Blue Lantern is under attack, The Star Sapphires appear to be heading towards a feud of sorts...

As for the GLS: Hal is no longer a GL, John is on trial, Kyle is banished and Guy is being temporarily distracted by promotion fever...

The Emotional Spectrum seems to be in some serious trouble right now. (Also, Black Hand is free! Blackest Night 2!)

What really killed me is that they are surprised the Guardians are doing questionable things... They have being doing that since the dawn of time! Almost any problem in the DC Universe can be traced back to them!

It also looks like all of the other corps are falling as well. Blue Lanterns attacked by the reach, Virus causing the end of the Red Lanterns, I forgot how sapphire is depleating, but it is also, etc. Looks like an end for all corps and Blackest Night will happen once again, but this time there will be no other lanterns to stop it.

Why the hell did I drop this?!!!!

@BlackArmor:

You shouldn't have. With Sinestro being a GL again,it gets more interesting.I wonder who the 1st Lantern is? Geoff Johns said in an interview that it has something to do with the White Ring

Now I really need to get into the New 52 Green Lantern...I was waiting for the first trade, but now that's been blown out of the water and my next trip to my LCS will involve acquiring issues 7 and up for this series. Wow, Geoff Johns continues to amaze with his awesome Green Lantern arcs.

Yeah, Arkillo returned to Korugar, former home of the Yellow Lantern battery... he managed to escape with the aid of the Weaponer, who brought Arkillo to his forge for one last ring. This happened in Green Lantern: New Guardians #8.

The Blue Lantern will be under attack in the following issue, featuring a minor crossover with Blue Beetle in which The Reach will be attacking the power battery...

Keep an eye out for the trades. I grabbed Scott Snyder's Batman trade (hardback) this week. Gonna keep an eye out for JL and GL in the coming weeks and try to grab those as well.

#30 Posted by Theodore (3445 posts) - - Show Bio

Nok. I'm going to have to break out my old GL trades and reread them! Nok.

#31 Posted by RedOwl_1 (1664 posts) - - Show Bio

... dude.......... when the trade comes out I'm not a fan of GL but ManI got to read this :S

#32 Posted by feebadger (1436 posts) - - Show Bio

I've really got to start reading this title again. I was really put off GL by War Of The Rings which i really didn't like (event fatigue perhaps?) but the New 52 relaunch seems ot have things back on track and heading toward something truly epic.

#33 Posted by crazed_h3ro (1000 posts) - - Show Bio

I am still pretty confused on the events of Blackest night in the New 52. I know that the characters that were revived are back (some we haven't seen yet at all in the New 52), but does anyone else even acknowledged it happening? I am a Big GL fan and so far The series is looking awesome, and getting better with every issue. I also loved that every Corps has there own problems to deal with, leaving them not really being able to help Hal or Sinestro, there on there own. Hope to see John soon, since he might be that new GL in the up coming Justice League event.

#34 Posted by RedheadedAtrocitus (6885 posts) - - Show Bio

Wow, Guardians are willing to kill huh? Dark indeed! As far as the death of Arin goes, I think it was her death that severed any tie of compassion he had left in his soul and thus why it is still an important event that put him down a dark path. The Guardians being the possible end to the Corps though intrigues me...really intrigues me.

This was my favorite issue this week.

What does Nok mean?

Among other things, it is the name of the planet where the Indigo Energy is housed... it also basically means "compassion be with you"... something to that extent.

@TheOptimist: Thanks :)

Johns better not bring Abin Sur back to life permanently.

#42 Posted by Eyz (3095 posts) - - Show Bio

I got only one word to say:

NOK.

#43 Posted by chaos-soul (1435 posts) - - Show Bio

sinestro look like hitler in the pic with his wife

#44 Posted by kartron (420 posts) - - Show Bio

Guardians killing that guy was unnecessary or has no significance except for the point to prove that they have become weirdly dark characters!! Not sure yet on why they are that way. Maybe future issues will explain more.

Nice intro to the indigo light! I liked the concept that Abin had something up his sleeve that he did not pass it on to anyone before he died. That throws in elements suspense and thrill into the arc. "End of corps" gives a chill in the spine!!

The info you have thrown out here about Iroque from previous issue is interesting! I havent read several earlier issues and had missed out on this somehow!! Thanks!

I am totally excited on what more Abin Sur knew and what more things had he left unfulfilled or incomplete? - the mere question thrills me. Glad that I have subscribed for this series!!! Making me wanting for more of green lantern adventures. Feels like Hal is going to get heck load of "hidden" responsibilities out of what Abin Sur had left behind... hope he gets his "real" ring soon - wherever the hell it has gone..

Finally picked this up...fantastic issue. Can't wait to see where this is going.

How awesome was that last page! Hal and sinest are surrounded by the most evil characters in the universe. You know hal was shting bricks when he saw blackhand recovering on that second to last page.
#48 Posted by LordRequiem (1309 posts) - - Show Bio

I enjoyed this issue more than the previous few, in that answeres are revealed. But Hal still needs to be re-instated as Green Lantern for sector 2814, and Sinestro needs to go back to being a great nemesis. I'm hoping the destruction of the guardians (one can only hope) will changes things for the better, Hal could lead the Green Lanterns.

Also, Ganthet is with theguardians again, I thought he'd absconded to be a blue lantern. Is this the effects of the new 52?

#49 Posted by Delphic (1463 posts) - - Show Bio

GL seems to be getting more and more insane with each issue.
