Cindy Reynolds was born to Edward and June Reynolds, their young teenage daughter growing up in quite middle America suburbia. Things go well for the family until shortly after Cindy's brother is born, her parents start fighting, causing a neglected  Cindy to have a rift between herself and her parents. However as Cindy goes through puberty she discovers that she has special abilities-she discovers that she is a meta-human. Able to camouflage her appearance with her surroundings, in affect turning near invisible. Cindy keeps her new found abilities a secret while she finds herself being abused both emotionally and physically during this time.  Deciding to runaway from home she ends up buying a one way ticket to Detroit, deciding she would never look back at her past.

Once in Detroit, Cindy uses her her powers to hideaway in the city's streets thereby protecting herself from prying eyes.  After a while she becomes a mystery to the people of Cameron Street and some even come to think of her as an urban legend. Learning to become a street urchin in the most unusual of ways, Cindy keeps an eye on her adopted neighborhood and often gives a helping hand, as well as a thieving hand, to many of the locals.

She eventually ends up on a direct path to the newly drafted Justice League of America who had relocated to Detroit after their satellite headquarters is destroyed. The League had gone through a serious reshuffling of members with several of the original mainstays like Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman leaving. Having felt that the members of the League could not dedicate themselves as active participants, Aquaman proclaimed the disbanding of the team. However Zatanna, Elongated Man, and the Martian Manhunter stayed on and led by Aquaman opened the doors to recruit Steel, Vibe and Vixen.

As the newly outfitted League based themselves close to Cameron St. they had a run in with Cindy during a local outing. Cindy eluded their direct attention until she got to comfortable in their hanger base one evening and was discovered. After pressing questions on Cindy about her own story, she eluded answering in mysterious ways, even giving her name as Gypsy.Cindy does indeed descend from the line of Romani people, more commonly known as the "Gypsies". The young teenage mutant was somehow able to ban the Martian Manhunter from entering her mind and reading her thoughts. Gypsy was allowed to join up as a member more to safeguard the precocious teen than actually wanting her to go on missions with them. However Gypsy always found ways to sneak aboard with them and proved immediately  to be a valuable asset in battle against the Overmaster and his Cadre.

Toward the end of her stay with the League, she has a premonition that two members of her league, Steel and Vibe are going to be killed. Professor Ivo sends an android to kill all of them, but Gypsy manages to find a conscience in the android that is sent to kill her. She convinces the android to not only spare her life, but to safely return her to her parents as well. Commander Steel and Vibe were not so lucky, as they were both killed by Ivo's androids. Shortly after she returns home,  however the mad alien Despero arrives and murders her parents. Despero tries to kill Gypsy as well, but she was saved by a strong telepathic like bond to the Martian Manhunter.  Along with the newer incarnation of the Justice League, Gypsy was avenged the death of her family.

Mysterious, Dangerous, and Beautiful
Mysterious, Dangerous, and Beautiful
Devastated, she returns to her superhero persona as Gypsy trying to desperately connect with some sort of family like setting. Booster Gold takes her on as a member of his new corporate sponsored super-team, the Conglomerate. As a member of the Conglomerate she even goes up against the new Justice League International, finding herself at odds with personal connections. This does not last for long as the fragile Gypsy finds she cannot keep up with the guilt at the loss of her family. Gypsy disappears for a some time after she quits Boosters team, this departure from any type of superhero life at all would seemed to be her new path.

Quiet and distant during social settings, over time Gypsy grows even closer to J'onn J'onzz, having developed a sort of father/daughter relationship early on in their careers together. Their relationship grew as they both worked closely together in the Justice League Task Force. During such an assignment Gypsy is killed, but is miraculously returned to life by the Martian Manhunter, who pleads with his god  Hronmeer  to restore her life. Most recently she has joined the Birds of Prey and has begun learning martial arts in order to become a better fighter and more able to protect herself.

Most recently, Gypsy was captured by Clock King and brainwashed into participating in the Dark Side Club Tournament. She was quickly beaten in the first round by Hardrock, who simply flicked a piece of rock at her head. It hit her and knocked her out. She is not a member of the Martyr Militia, which was composed of most of the participants in the Dark Side Club Tournament so her current whereabouts and status are unknown.

Powers

Cat and Mouse
Cat and Mouse
Gypsy has the meta-human ability of illusion casting, allowing her to blend into her background and effectively becoming invisible. Her abilities are telepathic in nature and thereby are only effective on other living beings. Her control over this power also allows her to adapt to rapidly changing backgrounds without betraying the illusion or needing her to concentrate on the continuation of this trait. She can not only camouflage both herself and someone standing in relatively close proximity to her. Gypsy has also learned to use her illusion casting to project frightening illusions into the minds of other people and these illusions usually show what the affected person fears most. This ability can affect other living things besides people, and Gypsy can use this ability to great use in combat situations.

It has been stated that Gypsy's powers have reached their last stage of puberty, and she can now use her chameleon powers to cloak not only herself, but a moving vehicle and its passengers. It has also been revealed that Gypsy also has limited precognitive abilities. She also has appeared to be able to project her astral self from her body, being a mental yet incorporeal manifestation of her persona. Gypsy has shown as having the ability to project an illusion over herself in order to appear as another person, but that person needs to be her approximate height and weight for it to appear authentic.

Aside from her powers, Gypsy is an expert in hand-to-hand combat stealth. As she normally goes around barefoot, she can tread quietly and walk unheard with ease. She's also an accomplished acrobat, able to leap high, run fast, swim, and execute unexpectedly quick martial tactics with relative ease. Gypsy also has a strong aptitude in electronics and computers, and has become skilled in the use of firearms. She has been trained by Bronze Tiger, and Lady Shiva has offered to train her as well.
