However, since Peter was only in college, the writers did not want to have a college age Spider-Man be married. They decided to kill off Gwen in the widely acclaimed story arc entitled "The Night Gwen Stacy Died." Gwen was later revealed to have had an affair with Norman Osborn, and became pregnant with twins. Gwen had intended to take the twins away from Norman and raise them with Peter. However, Gwen was killed before any of that could happen.
