In the comics it's revealed that J'Son is Star-Lord's father, but from what I read James Gunn might be taking a new direction with that. Any thoughts?

I've heard that a lot too about Warlock, it would definitely cool to see it be one of the Elders. I've also heard about it possibly being an eternal, Starfox or Starhawk.

Didn't they state towards the end of the film that he was half human half something else (can't remember what that all important other half was) and it was because of that that he managed to hold on to the gem for so long without dying? It could help to identify who his father might be.

Yeah, they found an "anomaly" in his system, where he is half human, but his father, which like @spidey_jackson said Rey, the Nova Core said it was an ancient being they've never seen or heard of before. It'll probably be a huge impact depending on how they reveal his father in the MCU.
