@cc1738: I'm more curious why you're not interested. Is it because you don't know who the characters are? Because you shouldn't base your opinion if you don't know them.
Guardians of the Galaxy
Team » Guardians of the Galaxy appears in 1116 issues.
The first published Guardians of the Galaxy was a team of freedom fighters in the 31st century. The name was later used for the team Star-Lord formed to deal with galactic-level threats in present day. The present day team's name was influenced by a member of the 31st century team who had time traveled to the present.
Official? 'Guardians of the Galaxy' to be Released in 2014
After reading the Cosmic marvel reboot back in 2008 and on, this has me more happy then the Avengers film
@heavyone: Because it's not Richard Rider?
They used Sam Oliver, who's the new Nova that appeared in AvX
Which I'm grateful for, as Richard Rider is awesome, and should not be associated with that train-wreck of a cartoon :P
I think Marvel should stick with X-Men, Spider-Man and Avengers movies for now. I don't know squat about the Guardians of the Galaxy, but I think they should be introduced in an Avenger movie before they get their own film.
@Cafeterialoca: I'm not into the cosmic stuff about the universe. It's one of the reason I don't really get into Thor as much. I also don't really like the team stuff. I like it when the story is based on one character. I'm not even remotely interested in seeing a movie about this. I suppose if the trailer looks amazing I might change my mind, but as of right now I don't want to see it.
@cc1738: Okay, that I can understand and respect. I just didn't know if it was because you didn't read the characters and was bashing them cause you didn't know them, so yeah, I can respect your opinion.

Like most people, apparently, I think this is unlikely to happen due to a total lack of name recognition among the public, but would love it if they did it right.
Unfortunately I think this is true. The movie going audience at large might not be receptive to heroes they don't know. If they treat it more like a sci fi adventure than a superhero movie I think they can pull it off.
Thor was played as an alien/alternate dimension sci-fi flick... This could totally be "the Star Wars of the [Marvel Cinematic Universe]. (Hopefully, unlike the GL movie)
Personally, I think this would be cool. As long as they do it right. I could also see this becoming a horrible movie as well. I could see where people would think adding in a talking raccoon or a tree would be stupid. Personally I like Rocket Raccoon and Groot but I could still see this movie becoming a catastrophe if the characters aren't written correctly. They'd need somebody like Joss Whedon to do it.
I don't know how much power they have as a team. Most mainstream movie goers don't know who they are. The Avengers 2 tie-in might give an extra boost. The question is because this is the Alternate Movie Universe they could completely change the make-up to more recognizable characters.
I could see something like this; We have Mar Vel crash on Earth and gives his powers to Ms Marvel(leading to her joining Gaurdians and then Avengers, similar to Earth's Mightiest Heroes). Of course Rocket Raccoon and Groot are a must. For a Thor Tie-In (maybe something for the 2nd Thor movie)Beta Ray Bill. I could see maybe a Silver Surfer tie-in with Firelord. Nova is making a name for himself in the current Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon.

I figured that it was going to be one of those stand alone series that completely ignores what is going on in the rest of the Marvel Universe just so they can have the team from the movie together so I ignored it
Why do people keep bringing up the fact that the Guardians aren't known? Thor and Iron Man weren't household names and they became successful. Hell, The Avengers were pretty much unknown to the general public compared to the Justice League and The X-Men. Being known is not indicative of box office success. It's all about marketing and having a good product.
It wouldn't bother me if it was non-canon but Marvel has said that everything that happens in the book is canon@Jonny_Anonymous said:

Yes but the Guardians were even more obscure. Still not like that Stopped Blade from getting a Trilogy, an Anime, and a TV Show.

Oddly enough my theory could hold true.
Is going to be difficult the introduction of the Guardians of the Galaxy with the newers since might not have any reference at all except that are the same creators from the Avenegers and most probably give it a chance if they get caught by the previous marvel entries but specially with the few people that know em cause as usually in movies script characters rooster & background and oficial appearance are regulary altered a little bit for not saying desfigurate; fortunately marvel is a company thats very careful to the characters step onto the big sreen. although might also be considered as an advantage by not been famous or popular they would have less pressure changing oficial facts to something they considerate could fit or gave a plus etc.. From a personal point of view might be good and run quite well to both newcomers and fanbase the first minutes of the movie developing about the first Guardian of the Galaxy team and the situation that led Astro Mayor Victory and Starhawk be in the present or past or current GG Team witth Rocket racoon, Starlord, Drax, Gamora, Moondragon Adam Warlock?.... Thinking again is going to be difficult to trying explain all in 2 hours better at least invest in really high quality speacial effects and 3D imax experience.
Kinda bummed to not see black panther getting green lit but im cool with GOTG.or pretty much anything marvel decides to go with until they make an undeniable bad movie which they haven't yet.everything is pretty much gravy train ahead
No offense to those who like GotG or like titles, but I have never been a fan of the cosmic stuff. If I see a good cast and decent trailer I may get excited. I personally think a Runaways movie would be more interesting if they aren't going to use a more recognized hero or team.

And how would a Runaways's movie tie into the Avengers?
Also just found this on IGN revealing the characters and also an Ant-Man test movie was made by the same director of Scott Pilgrim

Honestly I'd love a Nova movie! So I hope he is in this.
that would be a great story
Can't wait for Groot and Rocket Racoon!
@martianmanhunterisbetterthancy: word! I love all the Guardians of the Galaxy and I think they did a great job with casting.
