    Together Again

If you are a fan of the Marvel cosmic universe, then this is the issue you have been waiting for! For those of you just tuning in, there has been some unanswered questions ever since the start of the new Guardians of the Galaxy series. I understand they brought back the book to go along with the movie, but before this series started, people forget, that Starlord was dead. Not only that, but Nova and Thanos died with him in the Cancer-verse... which just sounds bad if I'm being honest. Well Starlord and Thanos came back but Nova Prime and Richard Rider stayed dead, causing a lot of people scratch their heads. Gamora, chief among them, has not forgotten any of this and forces Starlord to reveal what happened that fateful day... in the most dramatic of fashions.

She's super serious, and you better tell her !! What follows is a really cool flashback to The Thanos Imperative, which is one of my all time favorite Marvel cross-overs. We get tons of action and an epic battle between Starlord, Nova, and Thanos. The banter between Nova and Starlord is right on the money and made me very happy ... then sad because I miss them together. The art was fantastic and really colorful, truly capturing the tone of that fantastic Abnett/Lanning run. The first splash page of Starlord and Nova charging at Thanos takes you right back to the ending of that epic story and made me tear up a little. Whatever, some people get emotional about animals and shit, I get touchy with the Marvel cosmic universe... it's the same thing. The whole issue continues in this flashback, with bits of narration here and there like sprinkles...hmm donuts. That is the best part of this story, but could also be its weakness as well.

This is a Fantastic moment, but you really need to read The Thanos Imperative for this to make any sense, and since there will be a lot of new readers checking out the Guardians due to the popularity of the movie, this may be a turn off for them. We do get a little exposition from Gamora to fill in new readers, so they won't be completely lost, but you don't have the emotional hook that the original story built up to. Like I said earlier, I read The Thanos Imperative so I ate this shit up. I am glad they are taking their time to tell this story right, but we get a lot of teasing, and not a lot of answers in this issue. To be honest, I was not surprised because that has been the theme of all of these Original Sin tie-in books, so I was prepared for this to be the case. However, if you were looking for answers to those burning questions: Stay tuned... next issue... it's coming... we promise!

This issue was a solid setup, and if what follows is a spike, then this could be one of the best kept secrets of the Original Sin Event... yes that's a volleyball metaphor... I like to mix it up. We will have to wait and see. I do hope that Marvel Studios is taking notes on how to do a battle with Thanos, because though we didn't get our questions answered, Thanos got his bell rung ... boxing metaphor ...suck it.
