I know it's explained in Omega Flight that wearing that suit isn't about nationality, "It's about serving Canada." I think that this is the equivalent of me going down to the US, and getting to wear Cap's suit and carry his shield. As an athlete who plans on representing Canada at the Olympics, and currently in the world of luge, I think that wearing the maple leaf and representing the entire country is an honor that parallels what the Guardian suit means; That you are one of the nation's greatest.

Think about it, would it mean more to you to represent your own country, or someone else's?

Despite what's been said in the comic about it not being about being Canadian but serving Canada, I think the team should be all Canadians. I'm not saying it can't work with Americans or whoever, but when I think of "Alpha/Omega/Whatever Flight" I think of a Canadian team, but it's what, two Canadians, three Americans and an alien? However, I think the story is helped along by some of the characters not being Canadian. Seeing how everyone deals with that issue and each other is a way to see another aspect of the characters.

    And welcome to Comic Vine.

I agree with ya. I would be pissed if Black Panther got killed and they had someone from say Italy become the new BP. Now I'm not saying someone from another country couldnt do a great job taking over there mantle, but we all know it would strike a certain cord.

I think it is odd as well, but when it comes to the Marvel Universe, Canada's mutant specialist programs and the American mutant specialist programs have been rather closely related in those spook and political circles.

Heck, even in real life things have been a lil'close, check out some history about the OSA (WWII) and Camp X (located in Ontario), closely related to the forming of the CIA in its early stages.

More recently there is the Joint Task Force 2.

And plenty of other times working so closely its hard to tell if nationality even matters.

Sweet avatar Paragon. Auron was my favorite character in FF X.

I have nothing to contribute here that hasn't already been said. Welcome to the Vine.

@Canadian Wolverine: haven't seen you in a while, glad you're still around.

I agree, makes no sense. Why would an American or an alien for that matter want to serve Canada as opposed to any other country on the planet? Love of hockey, poutines, skunky beer, and universal healthcare? Is Canada under such great threat that they need to import superheroes?

What concerns me, is that with Pointer being a rookie, and not yet able to control his powers yet, if he screws up, it creates a bad image for Canada due to the suit bearing the maple leaf. When I'm over in europe wearing any Canadian gear, and I do something wrong, most people aren't going to be thinking "That guy is a jerk" they think "That Canadian guy is a jerk." Anything Pointer now does in the Guardian suit is reflected onto all Canadians, and I'm worried it won't concern him, because he's American.

It does seem wrong to have an American wearing the Maple and that the team isn't even mostly Canadian. I agree, it is the same as a foreigner wearing the Captain America uniform (or the Captain Britain one, or the Union Jack one). Aliens on teams you can understand, they have to live somewhere. The same would be true if the Americans (or indeed any other non-Canadian) were shown to be moving to Canada to live. We'll have to see where it progresses I guess.

I think Guardian should be Canadian as He has been marvels' Canadian hero representative for a long time. It would be like having another nationality become Captain America in my opinion. However, i think the writers did this in marvel as they never truly knew what to do with Guardian. He's been killed and even been written as a younger clone. His powers to me seem lame and was not given much thought when he was created. Am i the only one who considers Guardian a forgettable character?

I really wish they would get better costumes for alpha flight and get a whole new concept for the team. They had some real awesome characters (excluding guardian and vindicator in my opinion).
