By this point in the series the concept underlying the story lines has changed somewhat.  This actually started in the mid 40s in this series but this is increasingly the same trend over and over now.  This shift in the series basically means that the fairy tales are being told now to supplement the ongoing story dealing with Sela's journey through Myst and in this case introducing a new villain for her to deal with - Jack the Giant Killer.  Because of this the series has lost a little bit of what made it special in the first part of its run, but with all of that considered, this is still a pretty interesting way to tell the origin story of a new villain for the series.  The scripting here is not really where it needs to be as the ongoing plot is not very engaging, but occasionally a story like this still sneaks in to keep things interesting.
