razzatazz's Grifter #13 - The Eye of the Storm review

    I had started out in the new 52 reading Grifter and actually somewhat liked it for a while, but then the inevitable happened that I did have to make some cuts and Grifter had to go.  I do remember the character being somewhat likable, although the stories were often second rate.  I came back to the series though for one reason and that is Voodoo who after getting shown the door in her own series came in here.  It is a disappointing first appearance I am afraid, the concept is a cool one, and starts off in an interesting setting, but rapidly goes downhill, with Voodoo being relegated to little more than female sidekick/romantic interest while Cole does all the work.  There is a bit of an exaggerated fight between him and Apollo though as someone less of a fighter than Batman effectively stops someone as strong as Superman.  Overall, this was pretty disappointing and makes me miss the Voodoo series all the more.
