Four Devils, One Hell
This young boy, whose name is unknown, is the son of Simone Batiaque. She was originally married to Alfred Bixby. Bixby loses her, through gambling, to a Grendel named Calhoun. Calhoun in turn loses her to another unknown man, once again through gambling. This unknown man apparently fathers the boy, and is later turned into a vampire. He then transforms Simone into a vampire.
Simone leaves the man and hides out in the swamps of the bayou with her boy--which is very unusual, since vampires usually do not have any sympathy for humans. It turns out that Simone and the boy are the last descendants of Charlemagne, the ancient French king. There is a prophecy that whoever is the closest descendant of Charlemagne on the 800th anniversary of Hunter Rose's death will become the reincarnation of Rose, the original Grendel. However, Renute, head of the local Grendel krewe, is also one of Charlemagne's descendants.
Renute sends some of his Grendels out to kill Simone and the boy, but they defend themselves well, and are joined by Josef Mantovani and Calhoun, who are working against Renute. Simone is killed in the battle, but Mantovani and Calhoun take charge of the boy.
Mantovani and the boy hide out in plain sight as Sylvester and Tweety during Mardi Gras, but are recognized anyway, and are captured with the help of Gloria DeVere.
Renute gathers them all together, and shows them the original skull of Hunter Rose. He reveals himself as a vampire, and explains that he actually hates everything about Grendel, and wants to destroy his heir and much of his riches. He plans to explode an atom bomb, taking the reincarnated Rose and all the krewe's treasure with him.
There is a great battle, and Renute and his krewe are killed, and the bomb is defused. The boy ends up back in the care of Alfred Bixby, Simone's first love, who takes him to the Amazon to learn to hunt vampires. It is unknown whether the boy does in fact become the reincarnation of Hunter Rose.
Abilities
Even at a young age, the boy is skilled at fighting, capable of killing multiple adult Grendels with a shotgun. He is later trained by Bixby to fight vampires using edged weapons.
