Whiteout is a comic written by Greg Rucka and illustrated by Steve Lieber.  The story is of Carrie Stetko (Kate Beckinsale), a U.S. Marshall in Antarctica.  Stetko is on the trail of a killer in the harsh environment and soon finds the killer is more deadly than she realized.

The first volume of Whiteout was released in 1998 by Oni Press.   The movie also stars Gabriel Macht (The Spirit).  You can pick up both Volume 1 and Volume 2 in the Definitive Collections that have reprinted both volumes of the comic.  Why not read them before the movie comes out next September so you can brag to your friends that you know all about this movie.   I'm sure you're familiar with both Greg Rucka's and Kate Beckinsale's work so it looks like this could be a good movie.

Considering it's set in Antarctica and she's usually wearing a heavy parka...

You got a point there.  If I recall correctly, Carrie Stetko does check out different outposts.  So maybe when inside one looking for the killer, she could take her jacket off and leave it by the heater to dry the snow off and run around in the leather.

Quick, call up director Dominic Sena and pitch the idea to him before filming is over.  Actually I think it's completed already (at least according to IMDB) but maybe they'll do reshoots since it's not being released until September 11, 2009.

Yeah but I have no idea why they're waiting so long to release.

Anyway, I thought this poster was cool, modeled after the Frank Miller image.
