Green Lantern

Superhero Movies That Could've Been: Jack Black As Green Lantern
Next you should do Bill Murray as Batman. (Also Willam Defoe was in talks for The Joker in that same movie)
I was saying an example, on top of my head, that was already better than Will Smith.

BTW I think Will Smith would play an excellent John Stewart.Casting Will Smith to play John, just because he's, well, black and super popular, is kinda stupid... I mean, there's thousands of great and more suited actors to play John Stewart! (<- my favorite GL!) I dunno, Denzel Washington for example's got a better charisma and has played roles closer to John's personality. Calm, serious and always in control... I don't want to see Will Smith making video clips tie-in on MTV rapping about what's it like being a Green Lantern!....
But yeah, perhaps a guy a tad younger would be better.
Though I can't imagine a John Stewart too young either. He should be in Hal's range of age.
I know it wouldn't have followed your favorite Green Lantern arc...
But as a movie I definitely would have rather seen this Smigel picture than that boring by the numbers piece of shit.

Technically we still have this problem: people who have no idea what comic fans want making unpopular decisions no matter what.
This is where you should realize Hollywood doesn't care what comic fans want, they just want to make good movies that everybody wants to watch.
Do you think Nolan cares that there's a Red Robin now and Jason Todd came back from the dead?
The Green Lantern movie wasn't successful because it wasn't accessible to the general audience. I'm sorry, but Green Lantern just isn't that popular. A different actor, John Stewart or something written by the Coen brothers wouldn't have changed that. Jack Black was never funny so the comedy wouldn't have sold.
Jack Black decided not to do this because initial fan reaction seemed ...... threatening.
I'm very surprised DC didn't just do it anyway with another lead. And If not for the Marvel Films success and a desire to enjoy the same critical praise I Imagine they would have.
What was the name of the person who wrote this treatment? Who would have produced it?
Hollywood needs to read some DC comics before they try to "create" anything, the DC heroes are GODS and should be portrayed as such, Marvel has human characters which translate much easier. It's like every DC script is based off a different morons interpretation of how the DC heroes should
be seen instead of the way they actually are portrayed in the source material.
Why did they even approach Green Lantern as a comedy in the first place? What are people in Hollywood smoking and injecting? Good Lord. For all the creators who have dreams of turning their creations into movies, regardless of genre, it must be a nightmare, because it is obviously clear most movie studios and Hollyweird execs are way out of touch.
If you're going to make a superhero film a comedy, make it Flash or Booster Gold!
This would've been worst than the one we already have, much much worst. Least Ryan Reynolds have eye candy qualities, I can't imagine Jack Black at all. But speaking of what if's, I wished Emily Blunt would've accepted the role of Black Widow, Scarlet sucks.
This could have worked if there was an existing well done GL movie franchise, as he would just be another GL IMO, so long as it was marketed as a comedy and had characters / elements from the "serious" movies it could be pretty fun. If they tried it now it would probably flop though (and bring down the GL name to boot).
Hate on the movie all you want but at least the Jack Black version wasn't made ... could you imagine the fan backlash from that?!
You may not like the actor, his performances, or his movies, but that's a separate issue than something so demonstrably not true.
Jack Black is a comedian, an idiot... no need for him in any superhero movie. Of course there are funny comic characters, but there's no need for muggers on the scene. Toby mcguire was enough of them
Sounds like a bad, bad, baddddddd idea, I seriously wonder what, if anything goes through the minds of network/studio executives. Though, Black could work as an actual GL... Gnort that is

I think Jaime Foxx would be a better pick for John Stewart.
Occasionally, people in power loose the facking mind. Fortunately, reality rights itself before any major disaster is caused. Sometimes, even after disaster isn't averted, reality will refuse to acknowledge the whole mess exists. Case in point:
