I'm still quite new to the Green Lantern world but a recent fan. Flicking through the villains month Sinestro issue, I was intruiged to see that the storyline clearly shows him as becoming the most powerful GL of all and one that Hal Jordan "knew he couldn't take on alone". It shows Hal having to use back up to defeat Sinestro. I'm a bit confused here, because I thought, Pre new 52, that Hal was considered one of the, if not the most powerful GL and actually broke Sinestro's neck, in what was presumably a 1 on1 encounter. Can anyone explain? Is the new 52 Sinestro being re-booted as much more powerful compared with Hal and other Green Lanterns?

The incident you are referring to, where Hal disposed of Sinestro's tyrannical rule on Korugar, happened in the very early days of Hal being a Green Lantern, and hadn't realized his potential as a GL - this happened back in the Silver Age of Comics

The incident when Hal "killed" Sinestro occurred MUCH later in the 1990's when Hal went nuts as Parallax following the events of Superman's Death and Return.

All in all, however, the GL universe is one of those universes that did not in fact reboot during the new 52, as the continuity has remianed unchanged.
