Peter Sarsgaard In Talks For Green Lantern Movie
The Hollywood Reporter mentioned that Peter Sarsgaard is "in talks" to play the villain in Green Lantern. I know you're probably thinking I'm talking about Sinestro but he's actually in talks to play Hector Hammond. Who is Hector Hammond? If you don't know, you can check his page here. Basically he's a scientist guy that ends up with an evolved super-brain after being exposed to a meteor. No word on whether or not his head is going to be gigantic.
Sarsgaard was last seen in Orphan and has also been in Jarhead and Garden State. If the negotiations go through, he'll be joining Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan and Blake Lively as Carol Ferris. Martin Campbell is directing and the movie is set for a June 17, 2011 release. Filming should begin in March. Let's hope to hear about casting for Sinestro real soon.
thats pretty awesome news...
could you imagine if Hector Hammond was to headbutt someone in Real Life ? that would be like getting hit by a Volvo or something...
Oh my god.
I love Peter!!!!!
I hope he's in this movie.
Phwoarr. ;)
Damn, this is gonna be a good-looking cast.
It would be cool if he was going to play William Hand/Black Hand, but I think everyones guess of Hector Hammond might be correct & that is fine by me. I just hope he isn't going to portray Sinestro, because I think Hugo Weaving is a better fit for the character & I hope he is asked. =)
Wish I could recall who exactly suggested it, but Hugo Weaving (Matrix) was the name that popped up to possibly portray Sinestro. Maybe someone can post a pic but that was an awesome suggestion and hope it comes about to say the least. I'm a bit surprised they would use Hammond in the film but its all good. Just include Sinestro!

Well, he certainly has the forehead for it.
My villain cast list for Green Lantern.
1. Hugo Weaving as Hector Hammond
2. Zachary Quinto as Black Hand
3. Jackie Earle Haley as Sinestro
@Dracade: I was thinking the same thing. If Hammond is going to be the villain in the Green Lantern, then what kind of role will Sinestro have? Are they going to build up the Sinestro/Hal friendship throughout the movie and then set up Sinestro as the villain for a sequel?
they'll probably end the movie with sinestro being revealed as a bad guy and that's where the second movie will start from. having two villains wouldn't really work out all that well (my opinion only). hammond will most likely be the big bad guy for this film with sinestro coming in to help out jordon.
" Is it me or do Hector Hammond and Sinestro look almost exactly the same? Only Hector has a huge head... "No I see it too.
I guess this is good - Peter is a pretty solid actor. Never really cared for Hector. My prime concern is who they cast for Sinestro. I'm really hoping they get Hugo Weaving for the part. Just seems like a wise move for them to do , to cast him.
I'm very glad that they are not making Sinestro the villain. This allows for the script to have Sinestro as the senior GL Corps member attached to training Hal, building on their friendship/characterization before setting up for the big Face-Heel-Turn in the sequel (or as the cliffhanger ending).
If Sinestro is his friend and another good guy (albeit with a very Machiavlelien execution of justice) that turns bad guy at the end, it will make for a powerful sequel with an epic confrontation that audiences will love.
Good work.
Oh and I seriously doubt they make his head that large, it would be comical as live action.

But I do hope they keep the big head :D
Yeah, but it's Sinestro's ego that needs to be bigger ;)
"@robbiesol: LOL! I love the idea of it. It probably wont be as proportionately large as it is in the comics, but it should still be larger... but I'd love it if they did make it THAT big! So funny!! :D

Haha, oh I hope they do Sinestro justice. I'd love to see that big ego and dissmissive arrogance on the big screen.
For some reason though, I keep picturing Sinestro pointing to his ring and and calling it "The Situation" before using it.

I concur, he's perfect.
I'm trying really hard to keep from getting too excited too early for this. This could very well be DC's Iron Man if they don't screw it up. DC has really been building up Hal Jordan since Rebirth. Hopefully somebody has been making notes on the Marvel template, and will make an attempt to capitalize on their success.
Okay, I'm gonna go back and hide under my rock until 2011...
