Josh Keaton, the voice of the main protagonist: Hal Jordan on the "Green Lantern" animated show spoke to IGN recently and had this to say..............

Keaton said, “From what I’ve heard the performance of the [Green Lantern] movie made it so there was a lot of movie toys still in stores. And so the stores didn’t necessarily differentiate between one being movie toys and others being animated series toys. They just said, ‘Green Lantern? We already have those.’ And so because of that, a toyline wasn’t even made. And because a toyline wasn’t made, we really didn’t have the funding to go on in that sense, because a lot of funding is tied to that. So it’s unfortunate. It wasn’t because the fans didn’t like it. It wasn’t because of the ratings. It really, at that point, came down to the merchandise, and we had a lot to overcome from the performance of the film and that’s where it was.”

    So you see....just bad marketing...

    Don't blame the new shows

just read this over IGN as well

    1. it is f##king ridiculous that a show is cancelled because of toy sales and not because of ratings

    2. it is even more f##king ridiculous that a show is cancelled because of toy sales from toy lines that are

    . . . .a. imaginary

    . . . . b. not for the show in question

    .

I'm shocked that people are surprised about toy sales impacting a cartoon's longevity. If you lived through the 80s you'd be used to this. For instance Star Hawks was an infinitely superior show to Thundercats but Thundercats toys sold great while Star Hawks didn't sell for crap. Now Thundercats is a household name and barely anyone remembers Star Hawks

@joshmightbe: haha. Yup.  About your point though, If you were a child of the 80's you were very familiar of how american animation is designed to sell merchandise. He-Man was basically a twenty minute toy commercial, along with GI Joe and Transformers. Its not very different now although the shows writers are able to get more creative with properties. One thing though is I don't get how Justice League lasted so long. The show did have a toyline that wasn't very popular...maybe it was just funded by all of DC as opposed to certain corner of merchandise

That doesn't matter. Batman TAS right up through Batman Beyond were all dependent on toy sales just like any other show

    Blame Ryan Reynolds :D

Dont blame Ryan Reynolds. He did his part well. The movie wasnt up to the mark. And, the show was too good. This is what made the difference between the movie and the show.
Although the reason they gave was very lame.

Man this still annoys me, merch from a bad movie doesn't sell so they cancel a great show...
