Help Save 'Green Lantern: The Animated Series'

As you've probably heard by now, Cartoon Network has decided to not renew Green Lantern: The Animated Series. There has been no official reason provided, but it's safe to assume it's due to what the network would consider disappointing merchandise sales. It's sad we don't live in a world where quality alone can overcome profit, and if you're watching, you know the latest episodes have been stellar.

Since then, various petitions have popped up and people are regularly sending Cartoon Network messages on various social media platforms; but let's be honest here, it feels incredibly unlikely that'll make a difference. But you know what might? Buying the merchandise they want us to buy (CN totally has an Orange Power Ring..).

Naturally, I can't say for certain if this will help, but part of me honestly believes a boost (however slight in may be) in product purchases is the only real way to let 'em know we want this show to stick around. We might not get the show back immediately, but it could help make the show return one day.

In brightest day, in blackest night... this show shall not escape my sight!

Okay, I want to help... so what do I do?

So, if you love the show as much as I do, go ahead and support it by purchasing Green Lantern merchandise. Products directly from the show would be best -- these range from individual episodes to DVDs to statues. Obviously, buy these products from official sources -- big retailers, iTunes, Amazon, etc --- not sources like eBay and such. Also, buying Green Lantern merch in general will help prove to CN this is a brand we care about and want to see more of. Your purchase can be less than $10, or you could even buy one of those awesome statues that come in at just around $100. If I was a wealthier man, I'd definitely purchase the Atrocitus one.

"Hey Katzman, why aren't you doing this for Young Justice? Why are you hating on it, man?"

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy that show a good deal, too... but truth be told, I'm still playing catch up and not as passionate about it. That said, I understand many of you are. So, take everything I just said but replace "Green Lantern" with "Young Justice" and bam! There ya go.

Complaining on the internet really isn't going to get us anywhere with this one. If you really want to try to save these shows, then it's worth shelling out a bit of cash to potentially keep them going, don't you think?

At the moment I'm liking the storyline of green lantern more than young justice. But both are at the top of the animation shows at the moment. And both are in need of saving...

It's a shame more or less they already have chosen to kill this show and Young Justice. Maybe with this cartoon network/netflix deal they will see there is a following. Then again Netflix could pick it up they seem to be scooping up shows.

@Stormbox: HAHA my editing is so fast no one notices. Seriously I edited a few seconds after I finished reading the article. LOL

Wish DIsney would renew Tron Uprising, that show was epic. Okay, I'm in, I want this show to be renewed!

Huh, where was this article when Avengers: EMH was cancelled? Where was this article when Spectacular Spider-man fell too?!

I'm not going to buy anything unless it's a good show, even if Comicvine wants me to, which is kinda pushy =/

So try to save it! Everything I said above applies to that show, too. Here's the YJ product results on Amazon.

yeah, Avengers got cancelled last year and I think spectacular spider-man was cancelled maybe in 2010? They were being replaced by the ridiculed 'Ultimate Spider-man' and yet to be released 'Ultimate Avengers' tv show (which apparently is a continuation of Avengers: Earths Mightiest Heroes)

Pleasantly surprised about the lack of sell out comments.

Hope your show stays on the air.

#18 Posted by comicace3 (5272 posts) - - Show Bio

@Chaos Burn: So basically Avengers is gonna stay the same but they are gonna have a different title. WEAK! In other words ( unnecessary)

I wasn't staff when SSM (a show I miss dearly and absolutely would have wrote about at the time) was cancelled and I'm not a fan of Avengers: EMH (I've watched an episode or two and haven't really bothered to check back since).

I'm not pushing anyone to spend money if they don't want to.

Wait, are really not caught up? Or have you still just not seen the older episodes? I know you love green lantern( i dig this show too) but could you at least try to get a review here and there for YJ? There's only a few episodes left,it would be really nice. Then maybe you could give GL and YJ(once you've got to see all...or most of the episodes) a series review? Just an overall review of how you thought the series were. That'd be really cool. Also,i don't think i had cable when Spectacular Spider man was airing. How exactly was the show?Lighthearted/Dark(ish)?Action packed/more slow paced?

I agree that Loeb is lying but no one has ever said that the new show is to be a continuation of the movie...just that it has the same team roster....the reasons I don't believe that it's a continuation of EMH is because it's got completely new character designs and voice actors and won't carry over any of the dropped plot lines from EMH.....Justice League Unlimited was a continuation of Justice League because it kept the same designs, voice actors, and carried over plot points....Jeph Loeb is a horrible liar

And the multiple threads theres here, discussing each episode and other topics related to the show...

And that k4tz did mention the show...

Yep, totally ignored, poor young justice

It must be nice to be able to use a big site like Comic Vine to help push for renewal of a show that you happen to like personally. I wish there was a site like this back when Firefly needed saving.

#32 Posted by animehunter (1966 posts) - - Show Bio

I wouldn't mind saving Green Lantern, I do enjoy it.

But the one I would really like saved is Young Justice. Also I would like to see Thundercats 2011 make a return

Well, no, not really. YJ got a passing mention in an article about saving GL.

You mean if I buy Green Lantern The Animated series DVD from offline stores like Future Shop, CN might reconsider about cancelling the show?

Or should I purchase it from online store like Amazon?

I'm asking this because I don't use online stores...

I never liked the style and animation of this show. I was hoping it would grow on me, but it never did. I also don't like Young Justice, but only because I don't like the characters.

Spectacular Spider-Man was all of this.

Well actually i was asking if it was either with the > / But that's pretty cool to hear a show can be more than just dark, dark, dark,or happy happy, joy joy, happy happy, joy joy..So that sounds cool also both action packed and slow paced( cerebral is what i meant to say) that is also cool. But damn i do love YJ which has had bits of all of those in the show's runtime.

Spectacular Spider-Man had NO chance of survival. Not with the Disney purchase of Marvel. Not when the show itself belongs to Sony.

What? A comic book related website is trying to save a quality comic book related cartoon? What is the world coming to?
