...People on Comic Vine often argue that a single Green Lantern should not be as powerful as someone like superman because there are so many of them, but I disagree. Space Sector 2814, for example has 36 planets, including earth and therefore surely the space cop who keeps order on this tidy lot should be powerful enough to deal with anything that this sector throws at him, which means beings as powerful as Superman, or the equivalent villain...people who argue that GLs should be weaker are forgetting how big space really is!! There's room enough in all the galaxies for multiple super powered lanterns... superman on the other hand is just earth's protector...

This would basically make a group of 5-10 lanterns unstoppable if they decided to take over earth. Bad idea. I dont mind them being strong but they shouldnt be -that- strong, Superman is a unique being and often considered one of if not THE strongest hero in the DC Verse. Besides, Superman chose to stay on earth - its not that he cant travel across galaxies if he would want too. He has in the past. Also, Why should lanterns be as strong as superman and not every other hero? You are basically asking for a type of hero that exists in the millions to be equal to the most powerful hero in existance.

Well Superman is unique and has the edge on any Green Lantern, which is fair enough as he was designed to be the best, but I'm pretty sure Hal Jordan and Superman were once fairly evenly matched, especially when GLs could construct kryptonite, but in more recent times GLs appear to have been a bit nerfed, to the point where Superman was easily breaking GL constructs in the JL vol 1 book. And why would 5-10 GLs be any more unstoppable or unrealistic than Zod and a band of kryptonians attacking earth, which has happened before...?

Maybe Hal, because he's the most powerful IIRC, but an army of guys as powerful as Superman would be ridiculous.

Nah, GL should never be as powerful as Superman, he shouldn't even be as powerful as Diana. Diana should be the only one who can temporarily stale mate him in a one on one fight. (Aside from Bruce in one of his crazy suits of course; but even then he must have another gimmick other than a suit actually to win). Having said that Kyle Rayner, the White Lantern defiantly should be. That guy is criminally underrated.
