The Green Lantern Corps has returned, except this time Arisia, John, Xrill-Vrek, Kilowog, Two-Six, and Krona find themselves in somewhere unfamiliar in the universe. There's also something sinister going on as well. As seen in GREEN LANTERN #41, Hal Jordan is the lone Green Lantern around. Where did everyone else go?
Writer Cullen Bunn and artist Jesus Saiz debuted this new series today and there's a lot changed in this new story and the book focuses on a few new Green Lanterns as well. Let's take a look at some of the big developments from this most recent issue.
Warning: There are spoilers for the first issue here! Be warned!
4. There's Creatures Erasing Matter from the Universe
Right off the bat, the Lanterns find themselves somewhere unfamiliar. We got a good look at the characters finding themselves lost in space and dealing with a new enemy. We get a little bit better look at this new threat, which works almost like a white blood cell, eliminating foreign bodies from the universe. It doesn't just kill people, it erases them fro existence. Where do these beings come from and how can the GLC stop them? However, it's not the only new threat the Green Lanterns find.
3. Lanterns are Being Killed
The Lanterns quickly discover a few things. First, that there's more than one threat in this lost part of space they're in and that someone or something is killing Green Lanterns and encasing the bodies in some sort of red crystal. They all have a terrified look on their faces as well. This red crystal eats through Green Lantern force fields. Whatever or whoever is doing this was designed for the sole purpose of taking down Lanterns.
2. Guy Gardner is Back with a New Look
Everyone's favorite sarcastic Earth-Lantern returns to the fold this week as well. Guy Gardner shows up wielding both red and green rings. As you may know, Gardner was the leader of the Red Lantern Corps for quite some time, but we haven't seen him integrate both the rings together, like we seen now, although he did wield both ring in the past at the same time. Gardner also doesn't know how he got there or where the rings came from, but he thinks the Guardians have something to do it.
1. The Pyramid of Hate
The final page of the issue is quite the trip as the Green Lanterns find the source of the hate and the probable thing behind all the Green Lanterns encased in the red crystal. A literal pyramid of hate. Who is behind all this though? Could it be the Guardians, like Guy thinks it is, or are the Lanterns up against something new and terrifying? More importantly, where are the Lanterns and are any of them left alive? We'll have to keep reading to find out.
GREEN LANTERN LOST ARMY delivers a brand new direction for the Corps. What did you think of the issue? Let us know.
