Posted by G-Man (25906 posts) - 1 year, 11 months ago - Show Bio

By now you should be aware that Green Lantern is not only headed to the big screen but also to a littler screen and game console near you. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will be releasing Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters on June 7, 2011, ten days before the movie hits theaters.

The game will be available on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DS. In the game, players will fill the role of Hal Jordan, the first human Green Lantern, and create an arsenal of ring constructs and take flight in outer space and beyond to restore intergalactic order. You'll be able to use the Power Ring to build an array of weapons from green energy to defeat the Manhunters, an evil android race bent on destroying the Green Lantern Corps.

Check out these other screenshots released today.

I wish Kyle was a character option.

Hrrrrm, looks very God of War-ish right now.

I'll reserve judgement until I see some of the flying sequences, but I don't have the highest of hopes.

Flashy green lights. Nice!

Graphics aren't that great. Along the lines of Thor.

Hopefully the combat redeems the game.

If it was based on the comics, with comicbook art design, I think it would be much cooler.

I might snag it when it drops in price, right now it doesn't really remotely look like it is worth it outside for the side story and being GL for a little bit, even if it's just to smack people with bats or silly looking swords.

I played the demo at Best Buy. Pretty good, but I'll wait for a price drop.

@ImperiousRix
nothing wrong with it being like God of War.  Gives the player a lot of options for constructs then I would imagine.

I don't think there's anything wrong with being like God of War.  Wolverine: Origins was like God of War and that game was plain awesome.
I just think that a Green Lantern game needs a different feel than the typical hack and slash.  GL has a certain way of fighting and approaching situations that doesn't make a whole lot of sense in that genre of game.

Looks pretty decent to me.

How many times will it take for the "Green Glowy Sword" ability to get old?  Or the "Green Glowy Hammer" or the "Green Glowy Baseball Bat"?  It may be possible to make a good GL game, but the odds of them cranking one out in conjunction with the movie is astronomical.  If Arkham Asylum taught us anything, its that comic book games are only actually good when developers have taken their time with them and built it from scratch.  Movie-tie-ins are almost always irredeemably flawed.

Buy L. A. Noir instead.

Arkham Asylum wasn't made from scratch, they used the Unreal Engine as a base, and that's part of what made it so good.

I'll rent this one probably won't buy it as there are a crapload of Games I really want coming out soon suchas Duke Nukem forever.

This doesn't actually look that bad. Why won't Marvel go back to getting their games created by decent companies?

Looking...pretty generic as ost rushed tie-ins end up...
Reminds me of both the Batman Begins videogame and Iron Man...which isn't a good thing.

I'll wait for an actual Green Lantern, Reynolds-less, game that they'll take the time to actually produce instead of this movie merchandising product...

I meant it conceptually.  AA was never intended to be "The Dark Knight: The Game", so it had free range in terms of the story they wanted to tell.  On one hand, you could say it was a semi-sandbox brawler with some puzzles, AA had a distinct take on the genre.  Compared to a game like X-Men Legends, which was a fine game but it practically could have been a Diablo 2 mod.  The GL game looks like a basic Ratchet 'n Clank-style beat 'em up to me with minor changes.

I had a chance to play the demo in my local Best Buy. It's definitely a renter in my opinion. Perhaps the demo isn't the polished and finished game, but I'll give a few pros and cons below. Try it yourself before you buy it imo.

Pros
Great Graphics
Some nice animations and abilities
Great Voice acting (Ryan Reynolds included)

Cons
Targeting System could use work
Wonky Story, why does the ring have sentience.. and a female voice?
Lots of redundancy in the demo mission

Guy Gardner must be an unlockable CHARACTER!!!!!!!!!

Looks pretty good to me...but i wont get my hopes up.
Seems like no other superhero game will top the X-MEN LEGENDS series for me (strong 2nd & 3rd from BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM and the SPIDER-MAN games) but i'll give it a try.

Seems very generic to me. Looks like it'll get a 5 or a 6.
