Surprisingly Awesome
Green Lantern Corps members are tasked with the assignment of keeping the yellow Sinestro Corps rings from finding new members. Mongul gets his hands on a yellow power ring and seeks more of the them.
My Thoughts:This story arc picks up right after the end of the Sinestro Corps War. It's written by Peter Tomasi who does a great job telling this story. I enjoyed this comic much more than I had anticipated. I like what Tomasi did with all the characters as he dealt with the aftermath of the Sinestro Corps War. The interaction between Kyle Rayner and Guy Gardner as they spent their last few days on Earth was enticing. I also liked the choice of villain for this story arc. While I wasn't familiar with Mongul, Tomasi did a great job on the characterization, depicting Mongul as an awesome villain. I really enjoyed the way his dialogue was written. He certainly seemed like a formidable foe and a character not to be taken lightly.
The art is by Patrick Gleason with an assist from Carlos Magno. The art was stunningly beautiful. At times I've felt Patrick Gleason's work was just average, but now I think that was only due to his work being followed by Ivan Reis or Ethan Van Sciver. Those are hard acts to follow. Nevertheless, Gleason shines bright in this book. We have a lot of beautifully constructed panels that capture the action exceptionally well and some interestingly designed covers to go along with the story.
This story arc was a surprisingly enjoyable read I would recommend for all Green Lantern comic fans. Great storytelling and excellent artwork all around. This story continues to strengthen the Green Lantern foundation and slowly begins to build up towards the Blackest Night.
