The Cover is a MASSIVE Piece of False Advertising
The Good: When I picked up this issue (atrociously misrepresentative cover aside) I was expecting 22 pages of John being mopey and introspective. And that could've been fine if it were well written, but that wasn't what I got. What I got was an incredibly unexpected look at John Stewart through the eyes of a new recruit. Not just an ordinary new recruit, but one drawn in from the events of War of the Green Lanterns. This issue deals with the fallout from the war in several facets, and frankly it's pretty damn great. We get to see how all the sudden unworthy new recruits felt, and we got to see what was going on with John after he has to face the hard choices he made in the War. It's a fabulous lesson in humility, and frankly it's as good as Space War Fallout issues get, because it's done in such a different and interesting way.
Daniel HDR's are was quite a treat. I'd absolutely love to see him do more Green Lantern. He's got a fairly standard style, but it looks pretty darn good, and feels right at home in the world of Green Lantern.
The Bad: That is a TERRIBLE cover. I mean, it's cool and all, and it's a perfectly fine cover on it's own, but it says EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE OF EVERYTHING THE STORY REPRESENTS.
In Conclusion: 4.5/5
After the massive War of the Green Lanterns, it's nice to sit back and see a rookie story. This issue wears the title of 'Green Lantern Corps,' well. Just, ignore the cover. Seriously.
