Green Lantern Corps hitting its stride

Van Jensen (with plotting help from Mr. Venditti) is really carving out a nice little niche for GL Corps among the GL line of books. It doesn't feel redundant or unnecessary. GL Corps is a great way for GL fans to dive deeper into the GL universe, but in a different way than the main title. To say a book like GL Corps is just "supplemental" would not only be untrue but it would do the book a disservice. It actually feels much different from the main title and plays out more like a detective story, with the Corps piecing things together all while being caught in the hellstorm of a revolution against the Corps.

Van is an emerging talent in the industry. His and Venditti's collaboration couldn't make me happier with the Green Lantern corner of the DC Universe. The styles they are creating in their books are starting to solidify and after the success of Light's Out, we can start to see these books take shape and better understand what kind of consistent quality these books will have going forward. The good news is they set the bar high and have been continually meeting or exceeding my expectations. Oa is blown to smithereens, the Corps is in complete disarray, Hal is screwing up left and right, and all I can say is I'm enjoying every bit of it!

Last issue had some great moments between Hal and John. We finally got to see John challenging Hal on why he is even the Corps leader to begin with. And really I can't blame him. John is the one who should really be Corps leader. He's much more suited to the task. But needless to say, the conflict and shortcomings of Hal's leadership create some compelling stories so I'm all for it. It also allows Hal to progress a bit as a character (something A-listers could always use as they often end up stagnate and unchanging).

I got a bit off track there. As for Green Lantern Corps #27, I give this 4/5 stars. Really liked it and it comes highly recommended!
