"A big, shiny light named Sinestro."

What you need to know: Green Lantern #52 is the end of Blackest Night in the franchise's flagship title. As with last week's Green Lantern Corps issue readers should expect the storylines to wrap up or tie together as we head to next week's super-sized finale issue.

    The Good:
    - Doug Mahnke. Blackest Night has really been a showcase for artists. Mahnke took over the GL series, and he's been fantastic. His cover is stellar, the character design is consistent, his splash pages are stunning, and his facial expressions are fantastic. Mahnke delivered consistently great art throughout the entire event run, and I, for one, am appreciative of his work.
    - Geoff Johns actually had John Stewart do something in this event. We're only at the end, but better late than never, right? Stewart actually appears on more pages than Jordan. He even gets characterization! I'm only hoping John's profile gets raised when he heads to Green Lantern Corps.
    - Nekron does something beyond stand around.
    - Geoff finally delivers what a lot of GL fans have been asking for throughout this entire event. The splash page is beautiful too. I'm also thinking that this - combined with what we've seen in the past two issues - will drive part of the storyline as we head into the next story arc, "New Guardians." I'm very happy that Geoff is looking forward and setting up what'll happen beyond Blackest Night #8.
    - The action has definitely ramped up as we hit the final issues. While action takes place, we also get some more backstory about The Entity. Overall, the issue is a pretty tight, well-constructed read.

    The Bad:
    - There will be some complaints about the Earth-centric Geoff-con. I personally don't mind it, but I know and understand why some people won't like it.
    - The word bubble on the cover is a bit of fun that Geoff's having with readers, but I'd prefer the cover without it.

    Overall:
When I look at this issue as a whole, it's just an important read that fits into how Geoff described how Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps would function in Blackest Night. If you just wanted to read the main story, you could. However, adding GL and GLC really help flesh out the bigger Green Lantern/War of Light saga. Honestly, that's why I've preferred GL and GLC during this event because a lot of fleshing out has happened in those two titles. Overall, #52 was a big issue that deals with Xanshi and some Entity backstory while setting the stage for the big battle in the finale. The event ends next week, and I cannot wait for issue 8.

With the close of Blackest Night in the Green Lantern title, it certainly delivers, as it has throughout it's pretty amazing run.  Geoff Johns is at top form, as he has been throughout writing a brilliant script and Doug Mahnke has some pretty amazing art to showcase thanks to that.  Some pretty cool action involving John Stewart is showcased, even though Hal get's the Green Lantern Bubble.  But for the most part, as seen by the cover, this is Sinestro's issue.   The Good  (ish)SinestroI was act...

Building on the lead from Blackest Night #7, this issue is exactly where the story arc needed to go.  Even with Sinestro in charge of the power of the the white light, the momentum is still in the hands of the Black Lanterns as they mount a final assault on all life.  The real fun here though is not the resolution of this battle, but rather the resolution of the threat posed by Xanshi.  A strike team of Lanterns head off for the planet trying to find a way to stop it, otherwise all life on Earth...
