    Story 2

Irene Miller inherits an estate from her grandfather, but after taxes and debts all she is left with is the house, the grounds and a race horse named Jersey Queen. Alan Scott goes up state to see her, and there he interrupts "Scar" Jorgis threating Irene, and gives the mobster a punch in the jaw. After Scar leaves Irene explains to Alan that Scar wants her to sell him Jersey Queen so he can race her, throw the big race and win the purse with his own ringer horse.

That night Alan dons his Green Lantern costume and patrols the grounds. At some point he comes across two of Scar's goons trying to lame Jersey Queen and with his power ring easily sends them cowering into the night. The goons run back to Scar and he decides he can't fight Green Lantern face to face, so he makes a deal with Gerald Davis, Irene's cousin.

The next day, Gerald visits Irene and convinces her to race Jersey Queen in a few races before the big one to get the horse practice and win some money for the family.

The next day, Irene and Alan are at the race track where Alan learns that the race the Jersey Queen is in is a Claim Race. A Claim Race is a race where the losing horse can be purchased by anyone after the race. Jersey Queen loses and is bought by Gerald. Then over the next few days Gerald enters Jersey Queen in a bunch of races so she is the favored to win the big race.

Later, the day before the big race, Green Lantern breaks into the stable and takes Jersey Queen and ride into the night. This angers Scar, but he has a plan and paints another horse to look like Jersey Queen so it can run in the big race and lose to Scar's horse. Scar also goes with his goons to Irene's place to confront her and Green Lantern.

At Irene's house the goons are beaten by Green Lantern and Green Lantern forces Scar to confuse to his crimes. Then back at the race track Jersey Queen wins, and it is revealed that Irene was the jockey and Gerald is going to jail too. The story ends with Irene telling Alan that Green Lantern saved the day and kissed her goodbye, not knowing Alan's secret identity.
