The Green Ghoul, armed with a special ring plucked by an Incan idol, came into conflict with Doc Strange during World War II. The Green Ghoul's fiendish plot was to sabotage America's shipyard with rigged boobytraps, but his plan was thwarted.

The Green Ghoul is given a new lease on life in the a pages of The Liberty Brigade. In his new retcon origin story, his secret identity is Helmut Von Hann, who led a Peruvian expedition for Heinrich Himmler in search of the idol of Supay, the Incan Death God. He instead found only Supay's mummified body. Incased, Von Hann chopped Supay's head off. He thus gained Supay's powers...his face turned to to that of a skull, while Supay's ring granted him the power to disable or slay others with a touch. Hitler himself named Von Hann 'The Green Ghoul'. The Green Ghoul is a member of Hitler's Aryan Skulls.
