Oliver Queen was the resident billionaire of Star City, husband of Black Canary, teacher of Red Arrow, member of the Justice League, fighter for the "little guys" and one of the finest archers from DC Edit
Origin
Oliver Queen was a multi-millionaire who was pushed off his yacht one day by someone he considered a friend. He ended up on a deserted island. Ollie managed to build a bow-and-arrow from some old generator parts, which he then used to hunt. Eventually, he got really good. He was able to get off the island when some drug smugglers mutinied and took over a cargo ship. Dressed in a leafy costume he had made on the island, and covering his eyes with a mask of grease from the anchor chain, he managed to capture the mutineers and save the crew. After turning them over to the authorities, he got a taste for crime fighting. Using his vast fortune, he began to create various trick arrows to use under his new mantle. These include the rope arrow, the electric arrow, the explosive arrow, etc. Later on, Green Arrow was joined by a younger counterpart named Speedy. Also a skilled archer, the two were a formidable team and worked together for quite awhile. Eventually, Speedy joined up with the Teen Titans East coast, and became their leader, while Green arrow stayed with the Justice League.
He was given the name, Green Arrow, by the press and soon became a member of the Justice League of America. Queen was secretly a major financial backer behind the team. Green Arrow and Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) became best friends and
began traveling across the country fighting crime together.
Ollie wanted to marry teammate, the Black Canary. She was hesitant due to the dangers of being superheroes. As fate would have it, Black Canary was kidnapped and brutally tortured by a crazed drug trafficker while undercover. Ollie found her beaten and, in a blind rage, shot and killed the torturer. This was the first time he had killed. The Canary lost her only superhuman power her canary cry and was unable to have children. The two would soon grow distant after this incident. Their relationship is a constant on-again, off-again situation.
Some time later, Ollie discovered he had a full grown illegitimate son, Connor Hawke, also a skilled archer. Tragedy soon broke up this newfound relationship as a plane carrying Ollie blew up over Metropolis. Connor decided to take over the mantle of the Green Arrow in his father's honor.
This wasn't the end for Ollie, though. Hal Jordan, now with his godlike powers as the Spectre, revived Ollie from the dead. After being seriously injured in an explosion during a battle with Merlyn and Doctor Light, Ollie spent several months healing. He hired the world's best martial arts masters to train him to the peak oh physical human condition. A rift was formed between Ollie and Connor when he hired the assassin named Natas (whom had trained Deathstroke the Terminator) to mentor him in the killing arts.
Then Ollie decided to try to make a difference in Star City by running for and becoming mayor. He won, and he used this position to aid in his "other" job.

Smallville
On the TV series, Smallville, Oliver Queen (Green Arrow) is played by Justin Hartley and first appeared in Season 6, Episode 2. He remained an important character through the first half of the season and is expected to return.
Sneeze In his first appearance he is seen as a billionaire playboy and it is implied he has a past rivalry with the Lex Luthor. He even kidnapped Lex Luthor simply to learn of how his rival had gained superhuman abilities.
He is confirmed as being the Green Arrow at the end of the episode when he proves his archery skills by shooting his bow from one skyscraper to another, hitting Borneo (as he had planned) on the revolving globe that sits atop the Daily Planet.
Wither His next appearance furthers the idea of him being the Green Arrow when Lois Lane becomes his date at a ball organized by Lex Luthor for billionaires to unite to help those who had suffered from Dark Thursday.
Oliver dresses in the costume of an archer, clad in green and when the date comes to an end in the evening he returns Lois to her abode only to attempt to kiss her.
She says that he must first show he is worthy and makes a contest for him, saying that he had to hit the pop can that rested on a dumpster not far from where they stood. He smiled and said, "that easy.", and Lois says in her defense, "that hard."
Yet instead of hitting the target he instead his arrow tip goes through the tab and tears it from the can, an amazing feat that goes unnoticed by Lois who denies him his reward.
Arrow Finally, in the next episode, the Green Arrow is first seen when he steals a necklace from Martha Kent, that was given to her by Lionel Luthor. Lois tries to catch the "Green Arrow Bandit" as she calls him but only manages to get a ring bearing his family crest.
And as she and Chloe look over the ring, Chloe takes several pictures before the Green Arrow uses an arrow that knocks them unconscious to retrieve the ring.
The episode then commences to shown the strains on Lois and Oliver's relationship as she has made everyone believe the Green Arrow is a common thief and hates him while she dates his alter ego.
He eventually manages to prove himself, not to Lois, even though he saves her life. But to Clark Kent who realizes that Green Arrow is a hero and proceeds to delete the images Chloe had taken to keep the secret of the Green Arrow's identity.
It is then that Green Arrow confesses that he believes stealing is right if the ultimate end proves it to be right, Clark vehemently disagrees seeing himself as the dictator of morality.
Reunion Oliver's past, with Lex, is expanded upon and it is revealed that they both went to Excelsior Academy together and in this life, Oliver was the bully, backed by his two partners who all bullied Lex Luthor and his friend Duncan Allenmeyer mercilessly.
In the end he steals the answers for the mid-terms and Lex tries to use this to become his friend, as he finally has something on his enemy but the circumstances lead to the death of the Duncan. His blood on the hands of Lex Luthor and Oliver Queen.
Rage Oliver's wish for superhuman abilities, such as Clark has, causes him to become addicted to a drug that will allow him to heal, even from death.
The unfortunate side effect is that it also causes increased anger and results in him fighting crime with a more heartless attitude and him deciding to finish his personal vendetta against Lex Luthor.
At the climax, he and Lex both kill each other, Lex shooting him with a pistol, him shooting Lex with his crossbow but Oliver planned it to be so, simply using his drug to live yet again.
But his morality is tested by Clark and so Lex is given a lease at life again when Clark explains that though Lex deserves death it is not their choice to make.
Justice In this episode, Oliver is seen as a leader and his hatred for Lex continues. He takes it upon himself to destroy all of Lex's 33.1 facilities and to do so he recruits other superhumans that are willing to help him: Arthur Curry (Aquaman), Victor Stone (Cyborg) and Bart Allen (Impulse).
Clark feels that they are wrong and goes against working with them, resulting in his near death, his life being saved by Green Arrow. After their battle is won and Green Arrow has once again humiliated Lex he asks Clark to join his team, hinting it shall be named the Justice League.
Clark says he hopes to some day but first he must take care of some other things. So Oliver Queen and his team depart, planning to not rest until every 33.1 facility across the globe is destroyed.
Siren Oliver returns after nearly a year of absence, this time he's working with Chloe Sullivan to get some more info on one of Lex's projects.
However, Chloe's efforts are interrupted by Lex's lackey, the Black Canary. Oliver tries to put her out of commission with his arrows but to his surprise her scream shatters them and she escapes with the file Chloe had just stolen.
Clark confronts Oliver about putting Chloe in danger, even though he himself does it regularly. He eventually tries to reconcile with Lois and seems to be succeeding only for the two of them to be taken prisoner by the Black Canary, which is when Lois discovers that Oliver is the Green Arrow.
Oliver eventually seems to escape after convincing Black Canary that he's the good guy, and the two work together to take out Lex, only surviving thanks to Clark.
Oliver and Lois then end their relationship, even though he's willing to try she cannot handle the double identity thing and so they say their farewells.
Oliver, Clark and Dinah then meet a top a building where she thanks them and ends up joining Oliver's Justice League, telling him, "Has anyone ever told you that you have bad taste in girlfriends."
Justice League Unlimited
In the Justice League Unlimited TV series, the Green Arrow is seen as the representative of the ordinary people who fights not on a global scale but on a much smaller one. Originally he was seen to be a reluctant member of the Justice League but this attitude changed and he eventually became a prominent member of the team.
Initiation As the first episode of Justice League Unlimited, the story begins in Star City where some common thugs try to rob a grocery store. However, their plan is thwarted by Star City's protector Green Arrow who seems to winning up until one of them prepares to fire at his back.
He is then saved by a blast from a Green Lantern ring as John Stewart shows up and says, "You know, we never heard back from you." Green Arrow seems to be very angry with the GL and makes several sarcastic remarks.
He turns down Arrow's offer but the JL Watchtower accidentally takes him up with Green Lantern in the Transporter and Oliver is surprised to see a gathering of nearly a hundred superheroes. While Green Arrow turns a deaf ear to Superman's speech, it is Batman words that hit him after he tells Bruce that he only fights for the little guy. Bruce walks aways saying, "Super villains step on the little guys."
And within only a short time, Green Lantern, Supergirl and Captain Atom are all assigned to a mission, a massive amount of heat radiation is within North Korea and they need to go check it out.
Green Arrow tags along because he doesn't trust the Transporter and he wants to get back to Star City. So he and the team fly down to North Korea in a javelin where they are attacked and then ordered to leave by the government.
And it seems like the Justice League is about to do just that (as they are not allowed to interfere) but Green Arrow refuses to and he abandons the team, who are forced to go look for him. He saves a man's life and discovers that the source of the radiation is a giant robot emanating radiation called Brimstone.
John Stewart, Nathaniel Adam and Kara Kent all arrive only to fall to Brimstone. John's injuries are so severe that he is forced to be brought back to the javelin where Captain Atom blames Oliver for the injury of their leader.
The three then learn the truth of the beast from the locals and try their best to defeat the beast by shoving a carbon rod into the center of its chest. But Captain Atom and Supergirl both fall to the monster's might, but Oliver refusing to give up fires a rod into Brimstone, destroying him once and for all.
Returning from the mission, the four heroes recover, Arrow emerges from the shower with a towel around his waist and is approached by Batman who asks him if he has changed his mind about joining the Justice League and tells him that it is someone like him who will keep the team honest.
He looks behind Bruce to see Black Canary putting on her uniform. Batman takes notice and smiles, "So, see you soon." to which Green Arrow replies, "You know, you just might..."
Fearful Symmetry Green Arrow appears to be a much more jovial man in this episode when Supergirl comes to him for help after having a series of "memory-like" nightmares.
He seems to still be very attracted to Black Canary and admitted to dreaming about her. However, this joyfulness began to become serious when The Question showed up to tell Supergirl that she had most likely committed the atrocities she now dreamed of doing.
So Green Arrow and Supergirl follow The Question to his room where he explains his conspiracy theory to them. He then tells them that he will be coming with them on their trip to S.T.A.R. Labs to learn what is truly going on even though Arrow is utterly against the idea.
Green Arrow, Supergirl and The Question then go to S.T.A.R. Labs together where the dream is explained by Dr. Hamilton. After hearing this explanation Oliver is satisfied that all their questions have been answered but The Question does not agree.
The three are then attacked by a group of robots and soldiers. But Arrow and Question's teamwork helps make short work of their would-be attackers. They then confront General Hardcastle in hopes of getting answers, during this short interaction Arrow willingly stands in front of a gun directed at Supergirl but it is never fired.
He eventually becomes fed up with The Question's conspiracy theories so he and Supergirl follow their own lead while Vic takes his. Arrow manages to steal a guards pass and uniform to get into the building he and Supergirl are targeting and once inside they head straight for the computer database.
The two discover the existence of Supergirl's more mature clone, Galatea, who then lures them into a simulator that creates a tangible holographic city. Galatea and Supergirl then begin their battle and Arrow finds his arrows useless against Galatea. However, he is nearly killed thanks to Galatea's wrath after he tries to harm her.
Arrow comes to and meets up with the Question who runs alongside him to see what is happening with Supergirl and Galatea. They watch as Supergirl seems to be winning and Galatea is removed from the battle field by her mysterious creators through a series of explosions. Arrow survives this attack thanks to Supergirl who flies him to safety and the three companions are left with unanswered questions.
Cat and the Canary In the JLU Watchtower, Oliver Queen's gloved fists repeatedly strike the punching bag hanging from the ceiling. But a door opens and Black Canary emerges saying, "Most people after they sell a company for three billion dollars would just kick back and relax."
To which Oliver replies as his punching exercise stops, "I'm not most people." and adds that after taxes he'll be lucky to see a billion and a half.
Their conversation switches topics as they both introduce themselves, as Black Canary and Green Arrow respectively. Arrow says he has seen her around before to which Canary says, "I know."
Black Canary then asks Oliver if he wishes to continue punching the bag or would he rather wish to spar with her. They strip down to their recreational clothing and so the fight begins.
Dinah rushes forward with her arm outstretched and is easily evaded by Oliver who grabs her arm and pulls her into himself. He then instructs her that she needs to be more centered. She takes this advice to heart and tries to kick him in the face only for him to grab her foot with his hand to stop it.
He then flips her over onto her chest on the floor and pulling her arms behind her back seems to have victory. He tells her that she should see him when she's actually trying.
Black Canary then begins to say how perfect Arrow would be to help her on a mission that the League can't know about. Arrow thinks its sounds fishy but Canary assures him its for a good cause.
So she makes him a wager, if she can get out of the hold he has her in then he has to help her. "Deal." Arrow's famous last words, he is thrown clear across the room as he hits the far wall. Canary walks up to him with her jacket over her shoulder, "I'm driving."
On the streets, the two costumed heroes ride a motorcycle, Canary tells Arrow he can hold on to her if he wants, he accepts quite willingly. Then the two talk about Wildcat, who they are heading off to help, the mission needs to be kept secret because he's a JL member yet he fights in the illegal Meta-Brawl.
Black Canary tells Arrow she worries for Wildcat and Arrow quickly removes his hands from around her waist and rests them on the back of the bike.
They arrive, out of costume, at a van where a man waits with the tickets they desire, the price is one thousand dollars each. Oliver becomes angry and believes it to be that Dinah did not need Arrow on this mission at all, she just needed Queen.
However, she tells him she chose him because she thought she could trust him. He is calmed down by this statement, buys the tickets and then goes to the Meta-Brawl.
Once there, the two see two super villains beating one another in a cage match, as hundreds of top dollar audience members watch.
Dinah notices where some of the fighters are coming from and tells Oliver to follow her in said direction. They arrive at Wildcat's door, ready to confront the man about his actions.
The two storm in and Dinah and Ted get into a heated argument over what he is doing. When Arrow hears the affection in Dinah's voice he becomes uneasy but as Wildcat throws her aside he immediately jumps in to defend her.
This only makes things worse and so he storms out of the dressing room into the hallway, followed by Black Canary. He then tells her what he sees her and Wildcat's relationship being but she clarifies that he is like a father to her.
After completely hearing her story, Oliver decides her cause really is noble and she is simply wishing to help a friend before its too late, but he tells her that Wildcat has his mind set on fighting.
She then tells him that its time for Plan B but he says there's no place to change. "Right here will be fine." Black Canary says to Oliver as she begins to take off her suit, revealing her superhero costume. Oliver soon does the same but not after taking a peek back at Dinah as she changes.
A few minutes later, inside the Meta-Brawl cage, Wildcat is about to deliver a killing blow to Atomic Skull but his hand is stayed by one of Green Arrow's trick arrows that seemingly comes from nowhere.
Ted only becomes angrier and when he sees Oliver and Dinah flying in to stop his "madness" he becomes all the more enraged. Oliver and Dinah find themselves battling countless security guards but manage to take them out with ease.
Then it is that the super villains come for the couple, ready to kill them without a thought. And as they fight for their lives it is still evident that Black Canary runs the show and her feelings for Wildcat make her stubborn as she decides to fight him in the cage.
Green Arrow believes this to be a lie to buy them some time, because she lied to him in the Watchtower to get him on the mission. She reassures him however that her flirting was not an act, Oliver tells her to look him in the eyes when she says that. So she comes to him, only to be knocked out with some gas from the arrow he holds in his hand.
As he holds her limp body, the door opens and Roulette sees Canary unconscious. However, Green Arrow tells her she'll still get her fight because he'll take Dinah's place in the ring. As Wildcat becomes aware of this change in plans he becomes violent, as he sees this Green Arrow guy as being far beneath himself yet the cage is closed and the fight begins.
Oliver instantly begins taunting Wildcat who refuses to fight Arrow as he is not a fighter. But Oliver continues to ridicule Ted asking him if he's scared or if the reason he wants to fight Dinah is because he'd rather fight a girl.
After hearing this last comment Wildcat explodes in fury and sends a hail of punches upon Arrow who continues to mock Wildcat as he is being beaten to a bloody pulp. Eventually Canary wakes up and runs to the fight, in her fear for and anger at Green Arrow she asks him what he thinks he's doing.
Oliver replies, "I'm teaching this guy a lesson." Seconds later he is laying flat on his back, being punched repeatedly in the face. It is then that his taunting finally pushes Wildcat to his limits who lifts Arrow up high off the ground.
Oliver then winks and smiles at Wildcat, though it is difficult with his badly bruised and bleeding face. Finally, Wildcat punches Arrow one last time, sending the brave hero flying several meters until he crashes on his chest...Green Arrow does not rise or even move and Wildcat turns the body over to discover there is no pulse.
Black Canary takes out her anger on Wildcat who realizes what he has done. He gives up on fighting and Black Canary remains watching over Arrow's body until long after the crowds are gone.
She cries over his stupidity and arrogance only to kiss the dead man. But to her surprise he talks to her, telling her that he simply used one of his arrows to make it seem so that he was dead, to teach Wildcat what it would be like to kill someone.
He asks her, "Do you think it worked?" but the answer comes from none other than Wildcat who walks to the couple, "Yes it did."
Black Canary and Wildcat then help Oliver up and leave the cage but not before Canary destroys the entire building with her sonic scream.
Back at the Watchtower, Wildcat is being led into recovery time with Martian Manhunter by Black Canary. Oliver then arrives on the scene with a crutch and a sling, saying he's had worse.
He then asks Dinah if she'd like to have coffee with him, she says yes. He turns around and heads off to the cafeteria saying, "Good, 'cause your buying." Dinah smiles as she watches her lover slowly head off down the hallway.
Double Date Green Arrow and Black Canary are assigned to watch Tobias Whale (given a different name in the episode), a criminal they are supposed to protect by orders of the Martian Manhunter. This is because a former Justice League member, Huntress, is out to kill the man.
So while on security duty, Arrow gets riled up as Tobias begins hitting on Black Canary and acting as if she's some animal. Arrow knows he is allowed to do nothing but still wants to.
Tobias continues to anger Arrow with his comments and asks him to fetch him some more oysters like a good boy. Arrow no longer seems to be able to control himself but he is calmed when Dinah speaks up and tells him to just let the fool talk.
Oliver becomes only further enraged as time goes on and has to be held back as he asks for just five minutes alone with the man but Canary once again cools him down. Tobias then directs his comments to Black Canary, resulting in her losing control and punching him.
So it is that the two Justice League members are asked to leave the inside of the house and forced to guard from outside. Oliver begins to tend to Dinah's hand after she punched Tobias, all the while romancing her.
The two then depart for the tree house on the yard so they can still watch the door. Canary seems angry that a killer is set free just because he rats out other killers but Arrow tells her not to worry about that.
The two then embrace and share a kiss only to see two cars pull up, a cop car and another vehicle containing Huntress and The Question.
The two, in an effort to perform their duties, block the way of Huntress and The Question, warning them that they should leave. The two groups then meet in combat, Arrow matching up with The Question.
The fight is obviously in Arrow's favor throughout and it comes as no surprise when he defeats The Question as Canary does Huntress. But the fight took too much of their time and they learn that Tobias is gone.
The four scour the house for evidence of where the criminal may be heading and The Question is seen putting something in his pocket. Arrow demands it be handed over and then he and Canary leave to find the storage container to which the key belongs.
However, it turns out they were simply waiting in the tree house as Arrow knew he was being conned and the two follow The Question and Huntress who burst out the door soon after.
The two follow Question and Huntress in a high-speed chase on Canary's motorcycle all the way to the waterfront. Once there, both groups await Tobias' arrival, and when he does show up Arrow and Canary are the first to attack.
They seem to be easily disposed of as Arrow fires five electrified arrows at Tobias in one shot, in an effort to protect Canary, to no avail. He finds unable to do anything but watch as Tobias' motive is revealed and Huntress manages to defeat him, leaving him to be shipped off to prison.
