The Good
It's almost as if with each issue, Jeff Lemire, Andrea Sorrentino and Marcelo Maiolo are cranking up the action and insanity. It's almost as if this isn't just a regular Green Arrow comic anymore. With the Outsiders War underway, there are many players on the field. Sorrentino has his hands full, or at least his one drawing hand, putting all the action on each page. And he doesn't skip a beat.
Lemire has raised Green Arrow to a new level. His backstory continues to get amped up. We're seeing new developments as his origin and mythos gets expanded. The story keeps building up and you have to wonder what can happen after this arc.
Each month I'm simply in awe of the art and colors. It practically takes you to another place. It has such a surreal feel and, honestly, I wasn't sure how Sorrentino's style would fit with Green Arrow after I, VAMPIRE. I don't even want to think about reading a Green Arrow story without Sorrentino.
The Bad
The downside of so many characters and twists is it's almost feeling a little overwhelming. This has gone beyond being just a Green Arrow comic. The recent revelation of a certain character's return and the events with this issue left me a little uneasy. It makes sense that this would have to be the direction for this character but almost feels like a tease. The solution to last issue's cliffhanger felt like a tease as well.
The Verdict
If you haven't been reading GREEN ARROW lately, you have no idea what you're missing. Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino are taking the character and series to new levels. There is a lot going on in this arc along with a lot of characters. While this particular installment in the arc doesn't push the story forward too much, we still have a lot of insanity to enjoy. GREEN ARROW isn't just a good comic. It's a GREAT comic.
