    Green Arrow

Character » Green Arrow appears in 4302 issues.

Oliver Queen was a spoiled, thrill-seeking playboy, until he was left stranded on a deserted island for several years. There, he trained to become a master archer in order to survive. After his return home, he used his new-found skills and his wealth to became the costumed vigilante known as Green Arrow.

Will Ollie finally get a movie?

Most superhero movies make bank, big time. Hollywood knows this, and they know that they can't keep revitalizing that cash cow on sequels and reboots. You think Kick-Ass or Green Hornet would have gotten made if Superman was still a thriving franchise? DC has finally poked out of their Superman/Batman shell with Green Lantern and that's a definite summer winner. I doubt they're stopping with ol' Hal Jordan.

Hollywood is seeing green right now (in more ways then one) and I'm beginning to think the floodgates are about to open. Being my usual hopelessly optimistic self, I believe Green Arrow might be getting his chance on he silver screen. Of course, Green Hornet and Green Lantern are already around, so the non-nerd target audience would no doubt be confused and/or spiteful at the sight of a third green hero. Still, in the coming years, is it entirely impossible that Oliver Queen could get his time to shine?

Comic book movies are always coming out of the wood work, so it makes perfect sense that a more obscure character like GA could get a movie deal. With the hope that that's what Warner Bros. producers are thinking, here are my thoughts on what would make an awesome film debut for the Emerald Archer.

    Writing

One of the things that can make or break a comic book movie is writing, because we all know that in the translation from page to screen, someone comes up with a really stupid line.

    I know, right?!
    I know, right?!
It's a tough pick to decide who would be the best person to pen a Green Arrow script. My bid is Kevin Smith. Not only is he a filmmaker with a lot of leeway in Hollywood, he's an experienced writer for Green Arrow and a comics fan who wouldn't let something like "Arrow Nipples" slide.

    Casting

    Green Arrow
    Green Arrow
     Black Canary
     Black Canary
Deathstroke. Come on, look at this picture for a second. It's like Slade was sent back in time to the wild west.

Those are some of my quick thoughts. I hope Warner Bros. producers agree, because Green Arrow has the potential to make a great jump from page to screen. I'd like to hear what you fellow viners think about this.

Yessss. The perfect Deathstroke. He's relatable because he's overweight like most of the North American population!

It would probably do better than Green Lantern, though I think they'd end up making Ollie a playboy douchebag in the movie.

This'll never happen, the castings you've suggested make too much sense.

@Amegashita: Yup. Hollywood has a way of oversimplifying good characters. They got it right with Batman and Iron Man, but that's about it.

I'd like to see "dark" Green Arrow. Either the island, makeshift arrows versus machine guns, or they can use "Oliver in jail" story they planned.

Yeah, that was what I understood. That SUPERMAX would be about Green Arrow in prison.

I'd love an adaptation of Year One, that was really good. I hate the idea of Supermax.
P.S. Charlie Hunnam for Green Arrow.

OMG he'll be a great Green Arrow.

I really hope they'll make a movie. But I'm afraid the audience won't like him because they'll say he's a weird version of Robin Hood, and that they prefer the original .

@PureKiwi: Yeah, I hope they do to, and I think WB is proceeding with caution after Green Lantern didn't meet their expectations.

I like the idea of Charlie Hunnan as Green Arrow, but any blonde, good actor who's not too famous is fine by me.
    Same with Black Canary.
btw Deathstroke as the main villain?
    No!
I'd prefer a more unique Green Arrow villain, Count Vertigo or Merlyn. Or both!
DC Showcase: Green Arrow is about as close a Green Arrow movie as we can get. I personally loved it. Vertigo and Merlyn were the main villains in that.
Also, I wouldn't want Kevin Smith to write it either. I love Kevin Smith, but the man has gotten lazy and lost touch with whatever made him great in the past.
