    Inside the Outsiders War...

Oliver Queen/Green Arrow is a character I have been familiar with for quite some time, from the Neil Adams Green Lantern/Green Arrow books, to Mike Grell, into Justice League Unlimited, Batman: Brave and Bold and now Arrow on the CW and the newest incarnation of Green Arrow by Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino. The first year of Green Arrow in the New 52 for DC Comics was one that did not garner much positive feedback. That changed when Jeff Lemire was brought in to take over writing the book. His first arc was met with praise, and had re-ignited my interest in the comic book. So when I first saw solicits for the Outsiders War arc, I was immediately interested. I started picking up the issues at my LCS, and was pleasantly surprised. I have enjoyed this book so far, and the twists and turns have kept me guessing throughout. The big reveal on The Island really blew my hair back, and I am waiting to see how this story is resolved and how Green Arrow functions in this world that has changed so drastically, and that I am sure will change more before this story is done.

This issue had a lot of confrontation, and plenty of violence, but what really stood out for me, the part that stands out so often with Andrea Sorrentino’s art are the smaller insert frames and panels that highlight specific action within the sequence. The blow-by-blow really highlights the artwork and shows a specifically choreographed flow to the fighting scenes. The last page, a big splash page with one of these highlight frames really sets up next issues “Final Battle” with some major changes and some definitely high-stakes consequences. I am really looking forward to issue #31 and the finale of the Outsiders War arc, but I think that even with the high quality of this story, I am going to hold off on continuing with Green Arrow after this until I hear some other opinions on the story in the future.
