bloodwolfassassin's Green Arrow #13 - Suzie Ming's Gauntlet review

I knew it was too soon

I'll be honest, when I picked up a bunch of new titles for the new 52's zero month, this was the one I was most weary about picking up again. I loved the old creative team so much, but was sadly in a very small minority so I should have known that the quality of the first 6 issues would not be returning.

What we have here is... weird to say the least. We start with Ollie in China fighting off a couple of tattooed guys and some dude in fancy clothes who throws masks at people. Ollie defeats the tattoo brothers by chopping off their ponytails. I think this has something to do with Chinese culture, but it is not made clear. It is however, made annoying by these little kids who serve no purpose in the the story but to comment on everything for no reason.

So, big bad mask guy summons the legions of the undead to fight Green Arrow.... wait what? Ignoring for a moment that this ability comes seemingly out of nowhere, this whole dispute is apparently about Maskie wanting some of Olliver Queen's Technology. Dude, if you can summon Zombie Hordes, I think you're a bit beyond tech at this point.

It's about that time when Suzie Ming shows up, and subsequently, the rest of the comic becomes a complete and total clusterf*ck. At this point I've read through this comic several times, and I still can't make heads or tails of this thing. I guess they trick the zombies into dying again, don't ask me how I don't care, and Ollie heads home.... to find Hawkman about to be taken in by Thanagarian police and fighting them off. Well, sh*t, I was all set to drop this thing and they had to go and really get my attention for next issue.

    What Works:

    The Cliffhanger caught my attention.

    What Doesn't:

I'm very tired so I don't feel like listing it all off. Maybe I'll edit this review later when I'm less tired because there was a lot I wanted to complain about.

    Overall:

    2/5

I'll pick up next issu to see what happens, but don't count on me sticking with this one for very long.
