    Make It Right....eventually.

Apparently there's a writer discrepancy on this issue since both Ann and Judd are credited for being writers (Ann being listed as the writer on the cover and Judd being credited on the creative team's panel inside the comic) Ann Nocenti has proven that she's horrible at everything and Green Arrow #0 is continuing her awful approach towards a good comic, but if the writer is Judd then I am severely unimpressed because his work is usually FANTASTIC (His Jason Todd Returns and Under the Red Hood series' being one of my more favored comic runs).....Anyway, here's why.

I can't say much about the cover given that every zero issue is the same banner run through garbage like it were a high school football game, but I would certainly much rather have gotten this art style of Ollie more than the slop we get in the actual material.

We start off with Ollie shooting a dummy in the crotch on an oil rig and he plays off his mistakes saying "I'm drunk" while Leena, his lady of the evening (Not really apparently it's a date), as she swoons over him like he's the best thing she's ever seen. Given that somebody else were shading and inking, I believe Ollie probably would be attractive, but the art style is just tasteless. So we find out that in this continuity of DC that Ollie was trained by a master archer whom was paid $400 an hour.....seriously? At first I assumed it was a lie because that is absurd and a very uneventful super-hero background....trained by Artemis the god of archery or something. Or hell even Cupid, but anyway, since it's not explained further we just assume some random asshat trained him. So Ollie continues to suck at archery and then we see he has had helicopters fly in with Scotch for his oil rig party, which by the way why he's here is because his father hates him/distrusts him...whatever.

So, the helicopter's were compromised by Pirate's and unfortunately not the "Argh!" one's, because although campy its better than "Iron Eagle". So Ollie irritates his date, because Ollie is being his usual arrogant lazy self, and she runs off. Well the helicopters come down and apparently "Iron Eagle" captures her and kills everybody except Ollie and Tommy. Well Ollie plays hero to try and rescue Leena who is strapped to a bomb thats detonator is in the hands of Iron Eagle. We find out now that Ollie actually was slightly inebriated, because I doubt he was avoiding being a show off, because he manages to shoot Iron Eagle in the wrist dropping the detonator. Big mistake....it drops, triggers, and blows up Leena and everybody else on the rig....admittedly, that was unexpected and pretty awesome, but that's where the wow factor starts and ends. Floating adrift like drown rats a burnt Tommy and an emotional Ollie get washed onto an island and during this part I felt sorry for Ollie because in Tommy's supposed dying words he tells Ollie that others will die because of him....Awww.

So, Ollie plays Tarzan in some tropical jungle for a year and then comes back and he's Green Arrow....umm okay. I'd have liked to see how he got the suit or made the suit or why he chose "Green Arrow", but no we get Roy and Ollie discussing their future and Tommy screaming in pain in a jungle hospital.....The End.

    Verdict

I will from now on skip any and all material ever written by Ann Nocenti or even with her name on it (now seeing as her and Judd seem to have been given credit as writers in some way). Enough said.

Green Arrow's got a fairly nice Zero Issue cover, Ivan Reis draws perhaps the best version of the new Green Arrow. Plus I like the blur effect on the arrows, and the sheen on all the armor.Freddie Williams II's interior art is really not what I had expected from it. I've seen him do art drastically different on three different series', and this one doesn't seem to totally match any of those. It most resembles his most recent work on Captain Atom, but the inking and coloring are nothing alike. I ...

It feels good to give a positive score to Green Arrow again 0

I was dreading this issue. Until issue 7, Green Arrow was one of the strongest and most consistently good titles in the new 52, but then when the new creative team popped up, the result was nothing short of heartbreaking. However, this issue was a welcome breath of fresh air.We start with 19 year old Ollie having a party on one of his fathers Oil Rigs. He's showing off his Archery skill and, in a bizarre twist, he's not that good at it. Suddenly, ATTACK OF THE CYBORG PIRATES!!!!!! Sorry, couldn'...
