It's Tragic
In the late 80's and early 90's Vertigo really started to take off. Mostly thanks to Neil Gaimens Sandman and the Hellblazer series. So of course as any part of the entertainment industry would do, there were many copycats. Yet like so many parts of the entertainment indutry, they grabbed the parts and not the essence of the successful series, and ended up making weird for weirdness sake comics. Needless to say, most of them sucked.
That brings us to Greek Street. A book that is basically a retelling of the greek tragedies with a modern day twist. Yet what it ends up being is kind of a readers digest version of the stories, where the only thing that is preserved is what made them violent or sexual.
It is a sad day when a tragedy is made to be emotionless. I think I will pick up a copy of Medea, before I pick up issue #2.
