"Vance Astro said:I agree...he is in the running but Morrison currently the best DC has."Pository.There is no one at DC better than Morrison."
Johns is a contender for that title as well but he's at the very least in the top two.Final Crisis was kinda slow to start but I have faith that it'll be good when read front to back. Killing Joke, Mogo Doesn't Socialize, X-Men, Swamp Thing, Animal Man. Morrison has a magnificent body of work. I'm sure a couple exist but I've never read a bad story by the guy.

Thoughts on Grant Morrison?
"Wolfman is still one of my favorites."same here, can't wait for the new vigilante series to come because of that
I liked his older work, but I believe that now everything he does, like most famous writers, is automatically considered brilliance. Not saying that he's not a great writer... Isn't his DC contract up soon? If that is true and he is exclusive to DC (which correct me if I am wrong I'm only human), I wonder what signifigance that has to Marvel putting the kibbosh so to speak, on the Mar-Vell mini series that sold very well, and decided to go with another kree soldier Noh-Varr sent to Earth (hmmm...coiencedence? A Morrison creation) to be Captain Marvel rather than go with the original "kree soldier sent to earth" when there's obviously still an audience. Perhaps it is for him to write should go to Marvel, just a speculation, I may be totally wrong. Now I'm dumping on you if you like Noh-Varr, obviously his Marvel Boy mini did well as well in 2001 I believe...don't get it twisted, Noh-Varr is fine...as Marvel Boy. I just prefer the original and judging by how well the Reed/Weeks minseries did in this economy, with a character that hasn't really been published for over 30 years, I'd say I'm not alone in this thinking. It is possible to write a great story in bringing him back, you just need to use your imagination. I just think it takes away from both characters. Kind of like the development of Nightwing as his own adult character was just thrown out the window to be the new Batman.
I'm just not into the whole "look who's the NEW so and so" thing. It's a trend and it's getting played out, it works for once, but when everyone does it just loses it purpose to me.
That's just my opinion.
These guys, even the best of them, are only human, not everything they put out is golden. That's all I'm saying.
Morrision has had some great stuff no doubt about it, but I'm not into this one writer dominates the whole run of possible talent with overarc after overarc, you know what I mean? I guess I'm directing this at comics in general.
wonderful animal man and constantine writer, terrible at writing Batman.
he actually wrote once that Batman walks with his ass cheeks clenched( see his Arkham Asylum notes).
Most of his Batman stories seem to be like his psychoanalysing Batman into oblivion. its boring, dull and repetetive. And hes the writer who did that Batman RIP crap.
but i must say he writes a brilliant Joker.
- Batman (R.I.P. is just brilliant).
- Batman and Robin.
- New X-Men.
- JLA.
- JLA: Earth 2.
- Marvel Boy.
Morrison is simply fantastic.
I like him alot. But sometimes his dialog can seem very stilted and his very complicated story ideas can often come of as him trying to show everybody how clever he is...
i don't like his works this year. but we got his JLA v3, final crisis and his batman, some of the best series in comic book history are written by him. and yes he's the best
"As long as he stays away from Jason Todd I got no problem with him "
this and the fact that he replaced Batman. I liked him until Batman & Robin
The consistency, variety, and sheer volume of not just good, but great, often epic, comics that he writes has made him my favorite comic writer. He continues to impress, over and over and over again. I've been reading Morrison comics for over twenty years and there is no other writer that is more of a sure bet than him.
My Dad has been a long time friend of Grant Morrison, so I've been able to read pretty much all his work.. even the lesser known books like Kid Eternity and Lovely Biscuits.
I don't revere his work quite on the same level my dad does though. I tried to enjoy The Invisibles but a lot of the characters irritated me.
Loved Doom Patrol. Doom Patrol actually kinda sucked once he left it.
My Dad gave me The Filth for my birthday not long ago. He had to explain to me the damn concept... something to do with friggin personality implants. I had to pretend to be interested in the book.
However, Grant's take on certain works are genius.
Batman Gothic, New Xmen, Batman Serious House on Serious Earth, Animal Man, that one JLA comic he wrote, Kill Your Boyfriend (actually I just read through that one to see rude pictures of the woman).
My biggest complaint about Grants material is that I think he's too indulgent in adding taboo subjects just so he can be "out there". Gender bender characters in The Invisibles aplenty and I just found out in the Arkham Asylum book Grant wanted Joker to be a transvestite.
